Awesome! Start by reading online on everything you can about what you want to study! Then come up with research questions that have not been answered yet, or research questions that expand our current knowledge! Then, reach out to scientists in your field of interest via email about your interest and if there are any opportunities to do the work. You can also use different databases and research engines to find opportunities around the world. We hope this helps you!

You got this! One thing you can do is do small task lists. We have a tendency of creating really BIG to-do lists that can overwhelm us (Like: GRADUATE). Make daily small lists with tasks you can accomplish and that are due (break them down as needed). This will help you stay motivated to complete what you need for each day. Take one day at a time!

Things to consider are: is this area being preserved for conservation, biodiversity or flooding mitigation (maybe related to climate change)? How is climate change going to impact the coastal areas that I live in (www.climate.gov/maps-data/dataset/sea-level-rise-map-viewer)?

Thank you for this. During high school my science teacher told my Mum he tried everything to get me interested, even doing more practical work, but just couldn't grasp my attention. I wanted to pick standard science but they made me pick an actual subject. When I didn't they put me in physics, which looking back, I think was the wrong choice for me completely. But now at the age of 40, KZbin is giving me a love for a lot of things school couldn't. Glad I found your channel & cant wait to watch your content!!! Love from a little Village in Scotland xx

Hi, I'm a current junior in college studying psychology and exercise science. Although, I do enjoy what I study I have found I am not fully passionate about it and I am leaning towards my true passion of the oceans and pursue a career in oceanography, environmental science, marine bio, etc. I'm still exploring my options but I feel like I am in the same boat u were since I too was thinking about medical school or obtaining a Phd in physiology, etc. All I know right now is that I can't ignore what I keep thinking about and what truly interests me which are weather, climate, oceans, marine life, and taking care of it. It's nice knowing someone else had a similar experience!

There are many paths that you can take. Generally, starting with a Biology degree will help you get there. There are researchers who started within conservation groups and others who have begun as volunteers!

It is easy to say there is "zero political drive" and this is certainly an ideal, but it seems that even the sets of questions that scientists set out to answer are formed by sets of human values which are influenced by both political, ethical and religious (or nonreligious) commitments. Furthermore, once there is government funding involved, you also have human beings shaping the direction of the research. So while the actual research itself may be completely objective and neutral, this cannot be separated from the larger context in which the research is being conducted. I also wonder what concerns we should have over the media's inability (and the inability of many "spokespeople" for science) to differentiate from a genuine consensus informed by data, and the way in which politicians seek to use that consensus for their own purposes by merging the actual consensus with their proposed political response...

In general, what you find is that a Marine Biologist makes from $40-$80/year. It depends on the position, location and area of study.
