Thank you. I like sharing these too. I also love my Biota fish. (Just an FYI I am not sponsored by Bioto, or anyone else for that matter). I have thought about spotted mandarin many times but I like the green aka psychedelic mandarin too much. Also I won’t get other dragonets as I want my GM to have access to all the food source without competition.

I personally have never had a problem with biota fish. I have also never quarantined a biota fish. IMIO (in my inflated opinion) they don’t need to be. Biota is not going to raise fish on a system that will have parasites or disease. IF IF IF I were to get a biota fish from a 3rd party I would definitely quarantine it.

I regret purchasing the Neptune Auto Feeder. The design is flawed, especially when it comes to removing the container. The lid is the part you have to pull on to remove the container, which is a disaster waiting to happen. Every time I try to refill or clean it, the entire container tilts or jerks, inevitably spilling food everywhere-right into my tank! This poor design causes more mess and stress than convenience. It’s incredibly frustrating and completely defeats the purpose of an auto feeder. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this product.
@mr.reefsafe9186
@mr.reefsafe9186 28 күн бұрын
I agree with most of what you wrote. It definitely has flaws and issues galore. This needs to be one of the products the retool. That being said I still like it (I do understand it’s not for everyone). I use a big bowl under it when I am working on it or take it down. These steps make the mess…less but not completely without a little frustration. This is a “C-“ product for most reefers.

I did more than a dozen videos on phytoplankton and rotofers. I did a few different filter mediums for rotofers but it was a couple years ago and not sure what ones I did. I don’t culture them anymore as the place I was renting the AC died and the landlord didn’t want to replace it. After the 4th repair and failure again I was done losing all my cultures, corals and live rock I was culturing

Amazing! I have 2 biota yellow tangs. Got them a month ago & doing great. I have them in a 50 gal AIO tank, with corals. Do you think they will be good in the tank for the next year or two?
@mr.reefsafe9186
@mr.reefsafe9186 2 ай бұрын
Hi. I’m happy to give my opinion on this matter. First I’ll say it is a difficult issue as tangs in any aquarium is a “hot button” topic. IMIO (in my inflated opinion) a 50 gallon aio is too small. Keep in mind that 50 is the overall volume. You need to subtract the sand, rock, filtration area and a small amount for the top of the tank (where the water is under the lip). Also many tank manufacturers will say “50 gallons”, or __ gallons when it is really less. I’m my cast I have a 180 gallon waterbox, HOWEVER, the Maine display is only 130 gallons and I have to account for sand rock coral and an overflow box… it’s likely 115 gallons when all of that is calculated in… 🫤 1. How many hiding places they have. The more the better!!! 2. How much free swimming area is there? The next thing is how many fish you have and what kinds of other fish you have. 1. Having similar fish can cause more aggression. 2. Having only 2 tangs in a, let’s face it, small tank, will definitively cause more aggression as they grow!! 3. The sex of the tangs. 2 males. A LOT of aggression!! 1 male 1 female. A lot of aggression towards the female. 2 females, best case scenario but still aggression. As to how long you can safely, well cared for, keep them there. Less than 6 months. Yes they could be there for life BUT remember Sea World keeping Orcas for life… not good for anyone especially the orca. No matter what you choose I will not get on your case BUT I would urge you to consider giving them up if you cannot provide a much bigger habit for them.

I just started culturing phytoplankton for the first time and I'm unsure what to look for if things go wrong. at the bottom of my tank it seems almost like "algae" growing so I'm unsure if this is correct? or do I need to increase the circulation with the bubbler?

It’s difficult to say for sure without seeing it but it SEEMS like it maybe phyto that has settled. Try increasing the bubbles/circulation. It should be like a steady boiling pot.

I will agree to disagree with you. I would argue they are not doing perfect even in such a large tank. It is just not possible to provide them what they need in a home aquarium. “We” were able to keep Orca’s in captivity for decades. That doesn’t mean they had what they needed. Not even close. I am glad that yours are adaptable to their habit.

Sorry. I just saw this. When engineer “gobies” reach maturity they start to dig tunnels. These tunnels go 20’ deep in a 20-30 radius. This is not something most public aquariums could even mimic. On top of they the ones that could likely wouldn’t want to as the fish becomes reclusive at that point and hardly ventures out of its tunnel system

Better off buying the testers individually. Takes way to long to do the tests on that unit
@mr.reefsafe9186
@mr.reefsafe9186 5 ай бұрын
Well, you can only test one at a time, the amount of time takes the exact same. For me that is not a reason enough to get the other ones. However, if you only want to test a few of the parameters, then the other ones make more sense because you can spend less money to get them. I do recommend this because I really do it and the convenience of having it all together. It is personal preference and I’m good either way.
@adambundy2639

My point is, if you have the individual tests, you don't need to wait for one test to complete before you can start the next. We don't all have a spare day each week to test. Testing needs to be quick and easy
