Your tafsirs are some of the best I've seen on KZbin, SubhanAllah. Yet I can't believe this video has less than 2k views, more people not only need to hear it, I'm sure they will love it.

As-Salām ʿalaykum waraḥmatullāh Shaykha Sumara, SubhanAllah just a few days ago I was wondering if any teacher has presented about Hajj, and then your course came up. Allah accept from you and make it heavy on your scales! We met in December at the ASI student retreat, and in 2016 in Morocco. Jazākum Allāh Khairan Shaykha.

SubhaanAllah وتكونوا من بعده قوما صالحين.... But all the way until the end of the surah, they continue to disrespect their father. إنك لفي ضلالك القديم Instead of working on themselves internally, they continued to look outward and ignore the internal struggle, SubhaanAllah even after growing up, even after seeing the favor of Allah upon Yusuf. May Allah protect us from diverting our attention from the internal struggle. Ameen

VERSE 18 The lesson is don’t delay the repentance like the pharaoh . Allah responds to pharaoh and his delayed repentance - he used to sin before this . We want our repentance to be like bani Isreal but not like pharaoh. Story of bani Israel -there was no rain - vegetation affected badly -the people would make dua and nothing would happen. Allah informed Musa that there is a man among you who has been disobeying Me for 40 years. And because of his sin, the drops of water have been forbidden to descend from the sky because of his sin. In surah al Noah- receive this understanding that when prophet Yusef (AS) tells his people to repent to Allah and He will bring down rain down upon you. The man among the crowd knew it was him and he then repented. It begins to rain. The lesson of the story -is do not delay repentance and always be constant of tawbah VERSE 19 Back in the days it was haram to inherit the woman (widow) like she is the property, so relatives owned the widow eg in forced the marriage the woman or marry her to someone else even if she didn’t agree with an exchange for money. They also wanted to keep her because of the wealth that she left behind -inherit her wealth. ( 1: do not inherit women against their will) . Some men - don’t harm or constrain the wife by taking her mahr when divorce is happening. How should you deal with women Main verse that is direct to the husband on how to treat her - Be kind to your wives - greatest need of your wife. • What if the husband can't stand her or dislike her - maybe that you hate something, Allah will place much Khair in it for you . A man went up to Umar (a) and said he wants to divorce his wife because he doesn’t love her anymore- Omar (RA) was shocked by his response . In islam you have to be in the interest of the family , children and the dignity of the wife. Verse 20 if you want to divorce, you do not take any mahr- it’s a big sin to take the mahr. Allah questions that taking mahr described in 3 stages ® 1 stage - it’s a manifest sin ® 2 stage- how can you take it back when you enjoyed physical relations with each other. - acting like it hasn’t existed and instead you should honour that blessing in the past ® 3 Stage- women gives up herself entirely for the marriage with complete loyalty and intention to make the marriage work. VERSE 21 Back in ignorance-After the death of the father, the son would marry the wife - son is not allowed to marry his wife because she had legally become his wife and that enough to have a status of step mom. If the father commits zina with the women, that woman cannot marry the son. If the son marries the stepmom and they have kids, those children do not become children from zina. They are legitimate children and do get rights to inheritance. And how could you take it back after having enjoyed each other intimately and she has taken from you a firm commitment? Not taking the mahr back acknowledges of the good that it exists in the past and the blessing in that also onor that blessing that Allah gave you. VERSE 22 verse translation -- Do not marry former wives of your fathers-except what was done previously. It was indeed a shameful, despicable, and evil practice. VERSE 23 The verse ---˹Also˺ forbidden to you for marriage are your mothers, your daughters, your sisters, your paternal and maternal aunts, your brother’s daughters, your sister’s daughters, your foster-mothers, your foster-sisters, your mothers-in-law, your stepdaughters under your guardianship if you have consummated the marriage with their mothers-but if you have not, then you can marry them-nor the wives of your own sons, nor two sisters together at the same time- except what was done previously. Surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful Tafsir of this verse if the son or daughter is adopted these rules do not apply. You can marry the offspring. If it's an Auntie - whether the fathers real sister or half sister- these relations are haram Another tafsir . If you desire to replace a wife with another and you have given the former ˹even˺ a stack of gold ˹as a dowry˺, do not take any of it back. Would you ˹still˺ take it unjustly and very sinfully? Verse 23- When you breastfeed from a woman and her son also breastfeeds from her then both of them become like real brothers and sisters. There is a difference on the quantity that establishes humra ( prohibitions from haram ) There is a difference of opinion- some say 3 sucklings or 1 suckling ( enough to establish that is her real mother . If the age of three- he does not become her marham. It has to be within the age gap ( up to 2 years) .There should be 2 practising Muslims to establish the humra ( to establish that 2 people are haram for each other ). If a man commits Zina the women of that mother become haram for the man. Step- daughter- new father is haram for the step-daughter because they had relations ( between the mum and stepdad) so he becomes haram for the step-daughters. The only exception is when no relations take place between the new husband in that case the wife's daughter is halal ( permissible) for the father but it can happen in various cultures. Zayb is the only companion that is mentioned by name in the Quran and this is how serious it was for Allah to make it clear that adopted sons are not your real sons . • Daughter in law- these are only for the real sons 1. The wife of the real son is haram for the father in law 2. The wife of an adopted son is not haram for the father in law The prophet - had an adopted son-Zayd bin Muhammad He was married to Zaynab. They got married and divorced. Allah commended prophet to marry Zaynab . This was one of the hardest commandments ( this was extremely looked down upon in Jahalliyah for a man to marry to divorced adopted son. Zaynab used to proudly say Allah was her Wali. An adopted son was considered a real son in a cultural sense as there is no difference but there is a difference. There are no blood relations, • Temporary prohibition ( humra uaataka ) - it is haram to marry 2 sisters at the same time. You cannot marry half- sisters or foster sisters. In the time of the prophet, this humkum came down- Ibn thayrous (RA) went to the prophet and said he had 2 wives who were sisters and the prophet said to divorce one and keeping the other. Another haram act -is a husband cannot keep a niece and aunt at the same. Mentioned in hadith in bukhari and Muslim. The rule is that what 2people is haram for a husband to have at the same time • If one of them were to be changed into male ( ie uncle or brother -so closest relations) it would be haram for the 2 of them. This is honouring the closeness of the relations of the women that are so close and Allah does not want the kind of friction or jealousy among the family and destroy the family relations. Verse 24 Every ancient civilization has had slaves .Slavery is older than the first human records were there unavailable to record slavery from Ancient Greece to Rome. Classical Greek and Rome that the first true slave society came into existence from the fifth to the third century we see a third to half of the Athens population constant of slaves -50% slavery population rate . In Rome 30% population . In the 2 century before the beginning of the Roman empire- ( it became the Roman empire through the system of Slavery - they needed a huge chain of cheap sources of labour to do the work and build the empire for them. This is why slavery is often associated with civilization . Slaves are employed by Romans more widely than ever before and probably with greater brutality . Roman slavery had some of the cruellest forms of slavery - eg Worst one was the work of the mines -- they would be wiped to working harder. The primary source of slaves was through war . This was not unique to Islam, the Sahabas and their campaign. This was in every culture. Whenever 2 cultures went into wars-( whether Muslims or Christians ) if party lost, their population were being enslaved and men were killed and the children and women enslaved. Quote from non-muslim say about the slavery in Islam and commenting on what slavery was like in that time.It merely states particularly in female slaves that they must be well treated. In general, that has been the case compared with the barbaric treatment in some Christian communities. • America - slavery - black women pregnant continued to work 60% or more had no time off during pregnancy. • Slavery in Islam - slaves were trusted in the Muslim society that they were made part of the army and what happened in the 13th century , the slaves in the army were so powerful that they got rid of the General -( over threw the General) and established mamluk dynasty ( slave solider ) which ruled for 3 centuries . The experience of slaves within Islamic history is completely different from the slaves in America • Slavery was an international institution. If the Muslim army wins at the war they wouldn’t be able to take people ( enslave) . If Islam abolished slavery as it was not practical to abolish slavery at that time . • Freeing a slave- expiate the sins. NB if I missed any notes please let me know JazakAllah khair:)

JazakAllah khayr. A very important reminder that our relationship with the Qur’an will play a huge part in determining our fate in the Akhirah. This is a lesson that I am trying to teach my kids in sha’Allah.
