Canon 7d Mark III, damn I wish we got it

I have the Sigma 70-300 and have used it both as a long focus lens and in macro. I took some shots of a surf competition and got really nice results; sharpness was excellent and autofocus is fast enough to deal with fast moving subjects. In macro mode, good sharp images are a breeze. I have not used the other two lenses.

I am between Nikon D7100 with a Sigma 30mm f1.4 cost: 320€ and a Sony a7 mark i with the 28-70mm kit lens. Cost: 550€ Which one do you suggest?! My main thing will be Northern lights (Aurora) and full dark environments

I use a 28 for street stopped down to f/11 or at least f/8 for either zone focus or huge dof. Not much difference between these lenses at that range. If I want bokeh or oof, I don't use a wide angle, I use at least a 58.

I take hundreds of wildlife photos with my P900 but no good for things moving about quick .

I know this is an old video, but I have a coolpix p900 and I'm wondering what would be a great upgrade. I absolutely love it but I do wish I could have raw images as well as there just been some things I wish I could take pictures of that it just doesn't do full justice of what I see in real life.

I come across Matt's videos occasionally. I have always enjoyed what he had to say about gear and photography in general. I am also saddened when I do see his videos as I too suffer from depression and been to depths where the black dog arrives. Matt is missed by those who have watched his videos and by his subscribers as well. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

I've had 2 80-200f2.8 lenses, I love them. I use them with my D850 for hockey, portraits and some weddings. My first lens fell victim to a hockey puck but I was able to replace it with a pristine example for $290. You read that right.... pristine for $290. Incredible lens at any price.

Kind of irrelevant but I bought the d600 as my first full frame in 2022. I love it. It has the warranty replacement for the shutter done. But love the camera. The only thing is I wish it had a articulating screen instead of fixed.

I've had the 1.8 and the 1.4 and you're blind if you think the bokeh is the same. And that's not even mentioning the colors. That's not to say the 1.8 is a bad lens, it's very good. And I'm not saying the 1.4 is a LOT better, but it IS better, beyond the speed. Hoser!

Would the FX version work ok on a D5600? I'm struggling to find DX versions.

Using this lens on RF mount with the adapter is NOT a good idea. The focus isn’t good and the pictures come out too soft. Not as sharp as RF lenses with RF camera. The communication not that good, a12 pin camera to work with 7 pin lens doesn’t do the job

Matt, Sad that you're not here with us anymore, great reviews like this are in short supply. If you can get a great deal on the 15-85 its a very nice lens. But it's still too expensive for what it is. For $800 you could get the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 + the Canon EFS 55-250 + the EFS 10-18. These 3 lenses are all you need for a good APSC kit for Canon EFS cameras. That was my kit for my 70D and my 7D MK2 until I went to RF mirror less.

Having the 36mp would be more ideal for me as I have a few DX lenses so when I need to crop into DX mode I will still have 20-24 MP keeping it similar to my current DX camera

For anyone looking in 2024, I had the D750 and sold it. I really disliked its color rendering. Blues and greens looked unnatural, with the greens, such as grass or bushes, looked way too light in color and as if they were pushed with the HSL saturation slider and highlight slider at the same time. Blue skies never looked natural and I just found myself "fixing" colors in post so much that it became a dread to edit large numbers of photos taken outdoors. It did have amazing dynamic range, could focus in the dark, and sweet image quality. But I see similar claims with the D610 so I'm now considering going to the older D610 after my trials with other camera systems to find that "just right" mix of good lenses, reasonable prices and image quality/colors. I regret trying M43 and Fujifilm (hate Fuji controls) and I love Nikon controls and ergonomics. So for me in 2024 it's a D700, D610, or back to the D750 knowing how much I dislike its colors. I think I'll land on the D610 as it's close to the performance of the D750 with a different color palette. If you're ok with heavy edits on colors, the D750 is an amazing camera even now. If not, the D610 is probably the closest without going to the D800 file sizes.

Hi Mat. Love your videos, such a boon for situations when trying to decide on gears. Was looking through your video to be able to decide between purchasing a D800e vs D610, getting excellent deals on both the bodies on KEH. I am a hobyist and ha e always owned cropped sensor only for travel and bird photos, own a d7100 and a d5300. Looking to buy a full frame for product and model shoot ventures for my wife's business. However i do not agree with your suggestion in this video that you made to the person. If there is no budget right now, i think someone should keep the d610 and wait till enough budget is there to purchase good lenses. For us amature shooters a body is well a one time investment, it got to be the best future proof choice.

T3 may be a cheaper better choice T3 shoots 720p hd but t3i shoots 1080hd which is simply not true. Its a upscaled 720P i have both these cameras and compared them theres no difference in video.

A absolutely. I like this 28/2.8D. But love my 28/1.4D for close quarters interior candid or part of the table type action. It’s fast , little soft @ 1.4? but clear & flattering.

I have the 5DRS and I do love it, but it is a Niche camera. He is right, if it's not just right, the image can be a lit soft, as it is VERY sensitive to camera movement.

maybe the title should leave a question mark behind? i guess iq comparisons used to be tested under same lighting condition and similar camers settings (and lens too of course), otherwise there will be no "fair" comparisons just an idea cheers

Typically the 1.4 versions from the big manufacturers are a step up in terms of glass, focusing speed, bokeh, C.A. corrections, weather sealing etc. The decision factors isn't just simply F1.4 VS. F1.8. Just my opinion. Rest well brother💙

What to choose ? I bought the F1.8 Why ? I could not justify spending an extra £1,000 on on the F1.4. No point. My 85mm F1.8 is my favourite prime lens. The images on my Nikon D610 are simply stunning. The 1.4 would have made not one jot of a difference to my photos.

All the camera brand will find this problem, but actually it’s not problem. It just change ratio automatically when we shoot in M mode which is manual photo mode in ratio 4:3 than you used that mode to recording video it will automatically change ratio to 16:9
