the name of the film belongs to the film makers not its subject ;-).....but we stole it from Liam's sister who sent him a custom made card that said "Happy New Ear" while he was in hospital getting the implant, so no harm no foul... all the best, Don McMahan & Anita Guidera softirishrain productions

Hi Liam, just a note to say I robbed your video name for the bilateral implant campaign, completely by accident, having forgot this video was called Happy New Ear. Please accept my apology!

I'm a guy who makes videos, not a blacksmith, so I don't know anything about it but if you go to The Irish Artist Blacksmiths FaceBook page and post a link to this video along with your question someone there can probably answer.

I know this is late to the game but that hammer is called a helve style hammer, it usually has a motor the has a wheel with a cam or elevation to lift the hammer as it goes around and then the hammer drops after the cam holding it drops it on the metal, and spins round and picks it up again, so long as the treddle or peddle that pushes the moter to the cam is enguaged, I dont really blacksmith, but I learned about differant types of tools, by observation, there is also air and steam powered hammers, that lift the hugehammer before the hammer is released and drops with gravety, or it double acting meaning its lifted and the giant weight is also slamed with even more power then a gravity hammer, like what is used for closed die forging, for most of the big open die stuff though today they use a gigantic hydrolic forge press that has differant dies and presses the metal to shape much better control and more force without the giant falling weight of a hammer hitting metal and shaking the ground for block and blocks of a city or area, oh the presses still have huge foundations but they put out more pressure then a large steam hammer, that the largest put out 150 tons a blow with the old bethlahem steel hammer that was short lived, vs the largest conterblow hammer or 500000 tons with the largest forge press , that is our largest, but russia, france I think, and china all have a press each that has more pressure for making forgings
