I'm so happy you went for E4! The weather was at least half decent. My first was E1 2024 and it was freezing and we had to leave early on the Sunday because of the crazy rain! Absolutely loved it though!

E1 this year, I was defo in my tent wondering if this was for me..... But I stuck to it, pushed on through and now I'm enjoying my time here in anvil come E4! Can't wait till E1 next year, it's a learning curve and getting used to it takes plenty of time, Using "I'm new to Anvil" or " I'm relatively new to Anvil" is the best advice to give anyone :)

This is so exciting!! i'm glad you had some wonderful moments! I also came into LARP from a Cosplay & D&D background! I'm now a fully-fledged larper with my purpose found within the game <3 I've absolutely had some moments too through the early years wondering what to do and who my character is! I definitely relate to you on the not wanting to impose or interrupt other people's stories. I will say though, E4 was my second event and it honestly felt so much more natural this time. Opening up new conversations can be the hardest thing, if I come across somebody new I try and do intro's / give out jobs which give folk an excuse to break the ice and talk to strangers because it's defiantly something I still struggle with and been doing larp for years. Songs and Stories is an amazing emotive and immersive part of the game, singing around a fire in the dark in the woods is so atmospheric. Glad you found some footing and are coming back to Wintermark next year :)

I'm a Kalavesi, but the only mystic type stuff I've done was a guided non-combat skirmish to be shown the Fist Empress's final battle by Eleonaris a couple of years ago (which half the Kalavesi in Anvil rocked up for). I ought to talk to a couple of the active mystics in my family about the Friday night vision thing. I think that you need to have a goosefeather infusion potion to participate? but it should be possible to trade resources/crowns for one at Lumi's bar by the Wintermark moot circle

Welcome and glad you enjoyed your first event! I was one of the Navarri that sang that song for our fallen striding members "Rivers Run Red" that was my first time in the actual songs and stories pit and it was surreal. we ended up losing a total of 12 members over the course of the weekend. it was real difficult and hit me way more emotionally that I would have expected. 10/10 would have my heart broken again! Navarr has a really strong bond with one another I find and one of the main reasons why I ended up joining them!

Welcome to Empire and Wintermark!!! I’m from Sweden so did all of the research you did too, had help from my friends in England which helped a lot(think my journey is a little longer😅). This was my 2nd year Larping at Empire & have loved all of it. Remember the feelings from my 1st event, but did a lot of exploring for the 1st event, but I had an incredible time and with roleplay happening for my character slower and gentler since I was new to Anvil. It was a slow start, but it was a good time to explore and when I got to the awning, I just sat and observed. You play at your pace and in your way, which what I love about Empire. You’ll find your pace and way of playing. You have fun playing your way, don’t forget that! Hope too see you after the Long Dark!

Welcome to the game. Ive been going to empire since year one event 1 and ill be honest half the time i still dont know what im going to do and the site has changed so much so i still het lost! If you come to the brass coast we would be mkre then happy to show you around amd get uou involved in stuff. Also the phrase "im new to anvil, i could do with a bit of help" also works people can try and explain things which might help. I haven't been ablr to go this year due to real world issues.. but for your first time i think you did great ❤ x

I have just finished my third event at Empire as a solo player and honestly spent about 90% of my time in my tent trying to will myself into talking to literally anyone. I've RPed and DMed before, but there was just a strange extra hurdle of not only introducing yourself to new people and inserting yourself into their lives, but for your first interaction with them to be in character as well. And I know people say "oh we're friendly, just come talk to us", but when battling your own thoughts, it feels like when people say "have you tried not being sad?" I'm thinking of retiring my character and making a new one as grimnir, because everyone needs a healer and that means they will talk to me first, even if only to ask for healing, or thank me later, which will slowly build up my interactions and confidence. It's just such a weird feeling. I work in hospitality so it should be easy. But this almost feels like intruding on school cliques. And a huge section of the LARP community are all feeling the same way, and just wander around like NPCs as background to make it more immersive for everyone else. Still, I have hope. I've invested a lot of time and money in Empire, and once I have that breakthrough and get out of my own way, I reckon I could really enjoy it.

Hay! I've been larping a long time and much less time at Empire. If travellodge means you have a good time then you do you! :) On the shoes, comfortable and waterproof, doesn't have to look ic. Larp kit stops at the feet if you need it to! Base layers, also look at full wool capes. It'll keep you dry in the rain and warm in the cold. Always go up and talk to others, empire is a game built on a lot of player made game! Welcome to Anvil! Anvil is insane for a brand new larper. Very glad you had a good time.

E4 was my first event as well and I was solo . I shared a lot of the same feelings but I had consigned myself to being an observer however once the first door opened they all opened . Once you have a reason to talk to someone it just cascades . Incredible experience and I can’t wait to get back I miss it so much already

Glad you gave it a try and found your joy. That’s a big thing with large fest larps, where it differs from plays so dramatically is that you need to be able to find how to enjoy yourself and find what your character wants to do when there isn’t a story right in front of them.
