I ride a Never Summer Rip Saw 157. It;s at least 10 years old. I'm 6' 1", I'm 57 and 215. I feel like that board is heavy and want something a little lighter so I can try a few things in the park this year and not kill myself. I think a volume shift board might be perfect. I also like to carve and do long runs. Any downside to a volume shift?

Got a second board this season and the size is almost identical to my other board but it’s a rocker instead of full camber like the other one. Set my stance back more on the old board so I can use that one for deep powder days and all mountain stuff, then the new board can be mainly for groomers for things like butters, riding switch, park riding. Gonna be nice to not have to compromise with one board for all conditions

5'11, 240lb I ride all mountain, side hits, trees, runs with a a couple runs through the park. Considering the Burton custom open for suggestions here too. But what binding or boot would you recommend? I'm an intermediate rider with a belly thus needing the step on for easier get up and go. Foot size is 11-11.5.

What kind of base and Insulation layer needed for shell pants
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports Күн бұрын
When you wear a shell pant you are normally going to be wearing them on a warmer day or maybe you are going to be hiking a mountain that day, so you are going to be warmer than most days because of the amount of energy you are exerting. I normally wear an Airblaster Merino Wool Ninja suit and I am plenty warm.

I fell off my mountain bike travelling approximately 15 mph.. it was a freak accident because I fell backwards landing on my back (thankfully my rucksack cushioned the fall but the back of my head hit the road leaving a big dent in the back of my helmet.. because of the helmet and the mips technology I didn't suffer any injuries (didn't feel a thing). I wasn't aware of how damaged my helmet was (could of been my head)until I arrived home .. Strongly recommend a helmet (mips) guys

It’s a great all-around option for someone who wants to enjoy a bit of both worlds. If you're mostly focused on touring, you might want to look at lighter skis or bindings, but for an all-in-one setup, this combo should serve you well.

Poplar: Lightweight and flexible. Effect: Provides pop and a forgiving feel-great for freestyle. Beech: Heavier and denser. Effect: Adds stability and power, improving edge control and response. Ash: Dense and strong. Effect: Offers dampening and stability, especially at high speeds or rough terrain. Maple: Strong and stiff. Effect: Adds pop and a dynamic feel, great for power and response.

Cartel X and Falcor both come with medium-stiff flex and great dampening, with the Falcor being a bit more aggressive. If you're looking for full wrap the Union Atlas or Burton Malavita are good choices that give you edge-to-edge stability as well.

The 145W Grom Boys is likely too small and wide for your specs. You’d be better off looking for something in the 148-152 cm range, which will offer better stability, pop, and overall control for park riding.

Matt, I recently bought the large 2024 Falcor bindings with a 25.5 wide board. I am a size 11. When I place the bindings on the board, the base plate is pretty big and I have about 1 mm to spare on the board. The problem is that the base plate curves outward and upward so that the binding overhangs the side of the board by about a 1-2 mm. I know I am going to get some boot overhang but I wasn’t expecting that the bindings would also slightly hang over. Is this a problem?

Really dig the Cold Brew. Snagged one a couple of seasons back after loving it on test day. I think it's a good surfy/loose freeride board. Floats well, magnetraction keeps it locked in on turns, and even though it has a short tail, it's very stable on landings. I think it would be a good board for like, Mt Bohemia, for example. And I think it's fun to ride switch, too. Would love a beefed up version.
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 2 күн бұрын
Sounds like the Cold Brew is a great match for your riding style. I totally agree-it has that surfy, loose feel while still being solid when you need to carve or land. And yeah, Magnetraction really does help lock in those turns. A beefed-up version would be sick, especially for deeper conditions or bigger drops. Glad you’re loving it!

Hey! Love the videos, could you help me out with the burton custom camber sizing? I’m 6’0, 190ish lbs and have a size 44 eu shoe size which is like 10-10.5. What size and wide or regular? Thanks!
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 7 күн бұрын
You’re likely looking at a board in the 158-162 cm range. If you want something a bit more playful or for freestyle, the 158-160 cm could be great. If you’re more into carving or all-mountain, or want a bit more stability at higher speeds, then 160-162 cm would be better. And I'd say for your shoe size you will be fine with a regular board. Usually it's recommended to get a wide for sizes 11 and up to prevent toe drag, but you should be good.

Hi Matt, I am 5'10 (178 cm) female, but on the heavier side (225 LB, 102 kg; edit: shoe size 42), I would like to try out snowboarding (as I live in Switzerland and have good opportunity atm). Based on height, I guess a 160 cm board would be good, however there is the discrepancy height vs. weight (and perhaps gender). Do you have 2-3 good recommendations for boards/models that might suit my needs as beginner (rather mountain area than park, more "relaxed" trying out and also later rather slower/"panorama"-snowboarding). Secondly, having slightly wider feet than smaller women, would you agree that "male" equipment is a better fit? Thanks in advance!
@PeterGlennSports

With a Men's 10.5 boot you won't need to go with a men's wide. I would say the Arbor Formula Rocker Snowboard (Men's), Burton Custom Flying V Snowboard (Men's), or the Nidecker Escape Snowboard (Men's), I would say any size from 154-160 would be great for you.

How do the ThirtyTwo TM-2 compare to your Diesel's in terms of fit and flex? Does one seem to have a more reduced footprint than the other?
@PeterGlennSports
@PeterGlennSports 7 күн бұрын
if you want something stiffer with a performance fit, the TM-2 is your boot. If you prioritize comfort and a slightly softer flex, go with the Diesels. It all depends on how you like to ride! And for the footprint, both boots are pretty well designed in terms of reducing it, but the Diesel might have a slight edge in terms of having a lower profile and feeling a bit more compact overall. That said, the difference isn’t huge, and both boots are designed to minimize toe drag. If you’re riding a board that’s a bit narrower, either boot should still fit without much issue.

The Mercury is definitely a fun board with a lot of pop, and it has that snappy feel that some riders really enjoy. The Mega, on the other hand, is a bit more stable and damp, so it makes sense that you'd find it more suited to your style. Even though they share the same shape, profile, and sidecut, the flex patterns and overall feel can be pretty different depending on the specific design tweaks each year. If you found the Mercury catchy in the past, it might just be a matter of preference in how you like your boards to handle.
