I know… $1200 for a device. But how do I know its much better than the netgear m5? Especially being in rural areas. I wish there was a test option before spending that much on the e300

Those are 2 different solutions that serve separate markets. The Netgear is a very good mobile consumer/prosumer grade hotspot. The Cradlepoint E300 is an enterprise grade router that can support up to 50 clients with full featured routing, security, and cloud management. Additionally, the Cradlepoint can accept standard third party external antennas to improve reception. Really comes down to what your needs are.

Lots of reasons - here are 2 of the most popular: 1. Diversity - you can have SIM's from different carriers so if there is an outage/issue with 1 carrier, the device can reboot and connect to the 2nd SIM/carrier. 2. Rate plans - for those with metered/pooled carrier rate plans, you can setup the router via NetCloud to reboot and switch to the 2nd SIM once a certain data threshold has been reached on SIM #1.

So I just learned about these and I’m thinking of a similar setup as a redundant internet access at home as I have an unlimited Verizon data plan as well. With the cradle point do you need a Verizon SIM card installed on it? Which SIM card if so?

Yes, a SIM from ATT/Verizon/Tmobile is required. SIM card size is 2FF or 4FF depending upon the Cradlepoint model.

VZ unlimited plan is unlimited till 22 gigs...(goes fast) then they throttle too 600kb. Learned the hard way
