Im heading to Eugene in a few weeks. Can you recommend a few spots close by. I've been to Shotgun, Three Trails and Huckleberry Flats. Anything else you would recommend thats close-ish?
@CascadiaMoto Жыл бұрын
I'm not too familiar with the area west of the Cascades, but I've heard good things about the areas you listed. If you're up for the drive, I would suggest checking out the area around Big Lake, on the crest of the Cascades. There are great trails in the Potato Hill OHV park, around the pot lakes to the east of Hoodoo, and the area around Cache Butte (which can be ridden to the top of for great views).
@sloppisingletrack Жыл бұрын
@@CascadiaMoto I was actually looking at that Santiam Pass OHV. It's an hour and a half away. Is there a good spot to stage to hit the potato hill trails or the pot lake trails? Are they clearly marked? Appreciate the info.
@CascadiaMoto Жыл бұрын
@@sloppisingletrack I would suggest staging at Big Lake- it is right between the OHV trail area and the pot lakes. There are a couple of different staging areas with room for trailers if you're using one. Check out Big Lake on google maps satellite view and you will see the loading areas clearly. As for trail markings, they are are decently marked, but I still recomend something like Gaia GPS or OnX to help get you around.
@sloppisingletrack Жыл бұрын
Can you send coordinates of the potato hill ohv and the pot lakes? I can't seem to find them. I have Gaia GPS but not much is shown in the big lake area. Just hiking trails and the PCT. I also had trouble locating a specific staging area at the lake. Just the day use area? I saw a lot of camp sites. Sorry to be a pain in the butt. I want to check this place out but don't want to go in blind.

Do you have the tracks for this route? Could you share them?
Very nice. Definitely putting this on my list. Any chance you have a shareable map/gps capture of the route? Also noticed that there was a CRF450L among the group that appeared to have the stock tank and no on-board storage of additional fuel. Assuming there was a fuel stop along the way? My 450L has a Vortex ECU which drops my stock range to about 65 miles.
@CascadiaMoto2 жыл бұрын
Shoot me an email @ [email protected] for GPX 👍🏻 The CRF450L has an IMS tank so range wasn’t an issue. There aren’t any fuel stops along this route 🙌🏻

@@CascadiaMoto got into mud like that but not quite as bad in Northern Utah... something about the stickiness after a rain... remember hearing the mud start to flip off the wheels and whack onto the front fender while feeling like it was pulling the bike down. made it through on luck alone as the front tire was becoming stuck from the thick layer of mud rubbing against the fender.
@CascadiaMoto2 жыл бұрын
@@perpetualmoto that sounds terrible! You know it’s bad when you can feel the impact of the mud flinging into the fenders! On this ride, the 450L was running a desert tire, so the treads had a scoop design to them instead of a block design. Anyway, what ended up happening is the mud got so thick it turned the rear tire in what looked like a racing slick!
