Great video. On a side note both NR Class locomotives are still currently in service now owned and operated by Pacific National repowered and with Pacific National blue and yellow livery.

Excellent condition compared to how they are these days and as someone stated ready for the chop.

My Dad caught it from Sydney to Brisbane. He noted that the cars weren’t exactly noted for their ride quality. Probably why it always stabled overnight. Not sure how it handles the tracks in Peru (on metre gauge, I believe).

Unfortunately they did get sold off as surplus carrages I cannot remember what year they where sold off. I think it most likely when Natonal Rail was sold off.

Since the Great South Pacific Express was on Narrow Gauge how did they manage to convert it to standard gauge?

It’s wasn’t just the sale of the locos What about all the knowledge that was lost in closing down the workshops

Gotta love these DL class locomotives, it’s actually sad to see all of them in storage in Werris creek, awaiting the chop…

Beautiful! This is rhe area where the westbound CN tracks cross over to the east side of the coast bound Fraser River! But further back, I would like to see the interchange at Black Canyon where all westbound CN & CP traffic must make the switch onto the CN tracks, as well as the point where the CN tracks get back onto the north / west side of the Thompson! Thank you!

I worked NARM (Peabody) from 2012-2013. What a trip. Between helping support controls operation - digging and processing coal to watching these cars loaded. Once in a lifetime experience. I'll never forget how brutal the winters were. @Dave Patrick- thanks - you know who you are - I'll never forget.

Living In The Blue Mountains For Over 60 Years, These Beautiful, Fast And Powerful U-Sets Were An Integral Part Of My Childhood As Well As My Late Brother's!! I Cannot Adequately Describe The Fondness I Have For These Silver Wonders, How They Used To Clatter Across The Plains From Parramatta To Emu Plains At Fantastic Speeds, And Drive Up The Mountain So Effortlessly!! It Was A Joy To Stand At The Open Door, And To Be Able To Open A Window In The Hot Summer; Just As Effective As The Virus-Laden Air Conditioning, Without The Viruses!! They Were A Big Part Of The Joy Of Living In Sydney, Of Cheap Rents And Utilities Like Gas, Which Cost Seven Dollars A Quarter, Instead Of The Eight Thousand Bloody Dollars A Year I'm Now Paying To Heat My Bloody House In The Mountains Today; The Era Before The Politicians Turned It All Into Shit, And Made Sydney A Dangerous, Overpriced, Overcrowded And Alien Ghetto!!
