This short instance of pain for the bird is a lot better than having it pecked to death and eaten alive by sharp beaks.

Man! This is not necesary if you keep the animals free! If you keep them forced togheter they will fight! But if you keep them free the will not fight! My Grandparents keep the chickens in a farm that all were free, and because of this, this was not necesary! They fight because to have teritory, just like how other humans did in wars! For teritory! You dont need tp torture them like this dumbasses! I think if you would buy space to make a farm it would be better, and this treatment will not be necesary! +the chickens from the begining were babys, that are inocent and dont deserve this!

The debeaking process is like cutting fingernails. The reason its hot is to prevent sharp edges after the cut is made. The chickens eyes shut when ever you hold onto them in a restricting way. Also putting a finger between the top and bottom beak looks harsh but isn’t painful. Finally the way we feel pain is largly contributed to how direclty our emotions effect our body. Animals have no complex emotion and extremely limited pain receptors

And maybe you could share it with us. I have a 3 chickens and a roster that needs trimming. They are out growing the chickens with their beaks trimmed In this way. They're mean to the other chickens, me and my children get pecked really hard by their sharp beaks.

Yall are all ignorant of the fact that chickens with beak pack .And have your herd of a packing order well thats when chickens pack each other to who dominate. And when they close together its even wist. And what you also dont know is that they keep pack utile blood shows then that chicken is dead becuse all the other chicken s are going to kill it.Its strange but the team up to kill the injured chicken.Now im not saying what their doing is not hurting the chicken but think of it like thjs.You debeak a chicken it hurts for some time it grows up beak grows back and it lives its life.Or dont debeak a chicken and doom hundreds off chickens to literally be packed to death.And please dont let your emotions control your responses.

Their beaks don't grow back after this. If you clip the very tip/point off with nail clippers, it will.

If you didn't shove them in tiny cages their entire lives they wouldn't be stressed to the point of pecking each other to death. Funny how that works.

i don't blame commercial large scale chicken producers.. all they are trying to see is birds don't hurt each other with those sharp beacks..what else can one expect from large scale bird raisers..there is not much choice there for LSCRs..i have decided i will raise my own chicken for my food, where i can grow them in controlled numbers without all these beak cuttings etc..so they get to live as nature intended them to, until they are processed for my meat.. i am a meat lover..( veggies stay far from me.. i dislike you guys,gals with passion :)
@animalethicsri261410 жыл бұрын
I understand the challenge presented by pecking problems, especially with large numbers of birds. But I disagree with you that the challenge is _justification_ for this type of "solution." First, I will point out that I am not one of those veggies whom you dislike so much :) I also eat meat including chicken. All this means is that I would like chickens to be able to live comfortably in their bodies during the time that they are alive. If that means I have to be extremely careful about where I buy my meat, or that the large scale producers need to find an alternative [potentially more expensive] solution, then so be it.
@Reddylion10 жыл бұрын
(the large scale producers need to find an alternative [potentially more expensive] solution, then so be it.) of course if there is a solution to minimizing the physical and psychological trauma to the birds while they are alive, it must be implemented at all costs, at any cost.but, only way is to build bigger sheds for birds so they have more space to roam around and don't bump into each other and start pecking.. not all commercial poultry fellows can provide that amount of real estate...only solution is RAISING BACKYARD CHICKENS, goats.. atleast a meat lover like me should do that raising chickens ,goats,dairy etc....the other option is birth control, reduce the human population so most can raise their poultry, and NOT support, commercial,large,huge industries of most sorts..
@animalethicsri261410 жыл бұрын
Reddylion Unfortunately, there are many small scale chicken owners who also have problems with pecking and cannibalism. This doesn't mean they are bad owners or the birds didn't have enough space necessarily. It means cannibalism is a behavior caused by many different factors - and we barely understand any of them. If the solution were as simple as "build bigger sheds" then what would you suppose the problem is in situations where space is plentiful?
@animalethicsri26149 жыл бұрын
Matt Pfaff The reason I must disagree with you is "it doesn't even hurt them," is inaccurate. Beak trimming cuts through the most sensitive touch organ on a bird right down through the bone. Over the course of the bird's life, they suffer from both phantom pain [beak trimming is a partial amputation] and psychological disorder. Symptoms include inactivity and lethargy, pain response to pecking, and some birds stop eating for periods of time. animalethicsri.weebly.com/beak-trimming.html

I hope all you guys are aware that this is quite routine for chicks. They peck each other while crammed in to cages. Taking tips of beaks off is prevention. Their beaks are filled with nerve endings. This is cruel. "Cage free eggs"...its all a lie to make you not feel guilt.

First of all, douche-bag, I am pretty sure people who think this is fucked-up DON'T eat KFC. We don't give a damn about their profit either, Einstein. "A decent chicken, at a decent price" is the last thing we are concerned about. I feel sad for you...seriously.
