NICE Video! From railroad family and many "pocket" watches in greater family. Six-Sigma accuracy on a mechanical time piece. YUM!

What an incredible valuable video! Picked up a pocket watch at my grandmas and it's still working. Probably belonged to one of my great grandfathers.

The earth doesn’t turn…the Sun and Moon move over the surface of the earth as hands on a watch. The glass face is an example of the dome over the flat stationary earth. The watch is an example of the earth.

After owning a beautiful kitchen clock for 25 years, this is the first time I have been able to set it! Can you imagine!?! I am thrilled! Thank you for teaching me how to set my clock! You have no idea how many times I've looked at that clock and felt sad and disgusted knowing that I didn't have it working and fearibg it would be too expensive to take it to a repair shop. This is really huge for me! I want you to know how much what you have posted has meant to me. This clock has great sentimental value, which means all the more. 🎉🎊🎉

Hello! Wow, would I love to spend a few hours with you. I have the very same clock but it has an electric motor instead of the pendulum. Otherwise exact same clock. Mine has two paper tapes side by side. The problem is that the electic motor doesn't work. I have no idea how to make it work, does it come apart ? I have a slave clock as well.

Got both a customized time piece and a razor sharp knife to go along with it, you helped me set the time no problem. I was worried I'd break it without help, but I get it now.

I was just given an antique ladies Waltham pocket watch from 1900, and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to set it. It looks like it should be done on the pendant, but it will not pull out, and I don’t want to force it. And there is no lever. Any suggestions?

The Washington Watch Co. was a brand of a brand so to speak. It was a Montgomery Ward brand. I have both a Washington Watch Co. Army Navy model as well as the same watch labeled Montgomery Ward. This same watch as well was made for Sears&Roebuck. I have that one as well. Illinois I believe did the most private labels. I have collected a few. Burlington Special for and a W.M. Ludwig jewelry store in Chambersburg PA. “Conococheague” model named after the river that flows next to the store that still exists today some form. That one is my rarest 1 of 100. I have others I can’t recall right now as my collection is a bit out of hand now. Many of them I have stored away and haven’t seen in years. As collections tend to become. I guess the way I see it is , I’m preserving American history of a time when we were self made, and actually worth our wealth.

I am self taught clock repairman. I have loved clocks since I was a child. Watching your videos shows me I have a lot to learn. You are so smart and so accurate with your repairs. It’s truly awe inspiring. I have joined the NAWCC and have since stopped “repairing” clocks because I realized that I haven’t been doing it properly. Thank you for your videos.

here is 2024 - he's still right about the market..it's not dead, but it's not strong I keep on buying - some are a bit expensive due to gold price - but overall still reasonable pricing....got myself to about 120 pockets very quickly....still buying.... the NAWCC national is here in York, PA in June - so hopefully I get to find some other nice pieces for a price I can tolerate.

For all those who don't know - when you showed the european watch (with 23 jewels), you got your hands upon a very nice example of european watchmaking. average european watches have a different escapement, called the cylinder escapement. It is kinda weird and not as good as the usual one, especially because it is not that trustworthy and stops time to time. When i myself started collecting watches, i accidentally bought a few of these, so, guys, watch out! You can recognise it easily - it basically does not have a pallet fork and the escape wheel links to the balance wheel directly.

Very informative video, I have utilised your techniques and advice with great success. Many thanks...from Diz Williams, 6 miles from Holywell in Wales! I have a painted dial by our local man Winstanley (though there was a long line of Winstanleys), probably made just a few years after your brass dial.

I have the Standard Electric Version shown with two paper tapes and a few extra tapes in cans, plus one slave clock on a lower floor of the house. They have worked perfectly since 1999 when I bought them at an auction and had to do all the same debug work as shown in the video. It works fine on 12V if there is enough current and drives both the winder and slave solenoids. Apparently it came from the original Local Highschool.

I just received my great grandfather’s Seth Thomas pat. Feb. 5 1876 calendar clock and have gotten a lot of information about how the mechanisms work. The insides of my calendar clock seems to differ from the one you are showing. The mechanism that controls the calendar has just a center post with 2 arms coming off of it. Should it work the same way. I haven’t removed the faces as I just receive it back from the repair shop. They said they wouldn’t work on the calendar as the parts are too hard to find, but it seems to work as of now. Is there a way to tell if it works the same? Thank you for explaining everything about the way the calendar knows when to change the dates. It’s really facilitating how it works

I JUST bought this bell, at least a very similar one! [Funny too because it is in Minnesota as well] Sadly the clapper doesn’t hit the bell no matter how I adjust it. Not sure if it’s broken or if the bell gong itself is too small for this clapper. Maybe the clapper must be bent? I am not sure if that’s good for it though. Sadly not sure what the rating is either. Can’t get any other information out of it

I have a beautiful Chelsea ship's wheel style clock and barometer set manufactured in 1972. The casings are made from brass and the ship's wheel rim is bronze. I asked Chelsea to give me some advice about cleaning and polishing. Their answer was "We don’t recommend any cleaners regardless finish as underneath it is all solid brass. Clean rag and pledge only."
