Rest in peace, Mr. H. You had me hooked with Wide Country. You did good work, and that includes your work for the love of animals.

For some reason, though my screen visibly acknowledges that I’ve tapped the “Like” thumbs-up icon, it’s not changing the tally. More rich APLA history from Jeffrey Schwarz. Thank you, Sir.

Thank you for posting this, Jeffrey! Am I correct that Steve made this speech 39 years ago, this past September, (15th or 19th?). I’d only ever heard about it, but had never seen it until this moment. When Steve made this speech, I believe he, as Patient #1, in Phase 1 of the notorious Suramin drug trials was in the midst of the trial. Within a month, he was rushed to the hospital to have his adrenals removed because it was discovered the drug was fatally destroying the adrenal glands of the test subjects. And, within weeks of that emergency surgery, having cheated death, Steve was being interviewed LIVE, by Tammy Faye Bakker as the first clergy to speak on American TV about AIDS. As @JessicaChastain said, that interview, which was also the first live satellite telecast for PTL, was seen by 20 million viewers. As you know more than most, Steve was told he would no longer be alive when this Commitment To LIFE was organized. On the contrary, Steve’s activism and advocacy for those living with HIV/AIDS continued for another THIRTY-EIGHT YEARS! As I write this, Steve’s niece has just attended tonight’s performance of Elton John’s Broadway Musical, TAMMY FAYE, in which Steve Pieters is a character. Between your documentary, these extra gems of footage online, Jessica Chastain’s Oscar winning film, and who knows where TAMMY FAYE may find continued life, Steve’s activism continues. Again, Thank you for posting this! 💜

When I see young gay people walk down the street arm in arm and holding hands, and I always stop and take a moment to thank all the men and women in our country who paved the way for all of us to be able to be who we are and love whom we love.

I love AIDS. It's so wonderful. I love the adrenaline rush, and getting excited, because you have to make a bowel movement only to release diahrrea everytime. The nightsweats give you an adrenaline rush. The need for thirst is so exciting. I just love it. It's poetic. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
