Bravo,,, difficult points about Russian cultural psychology clearly articulated. In addition Ukrainian courage to throw off Russian domination and corruption. Yanakovich was a classic Russian cleptocrat. I was in Maidan, it was inspiring!! I haven't been the same man since nor have I witnessed such courage since my service in the Navy with my shipmates. I love Ukraine.. 3rd generation U.S. Veteran.

In the age fascist terror in India all the communist leaders are out of jail, enjoying life, organizing mass protests , BUT most of the top leaders of liberal AAP party are rotting in jail on fake trumped up charges for more than 2 years. Why Indian fascists do not fear the Indian communists more than a newly formed liberal party.

Thanks to Seshan and many very good ECs India has produced, we have a much cleaner system and much less violence during polls. I bet all political parties like what they see because it levels the playing field for all and the biggest winner in all of this is the voter. The voter can vote for the candidate of his/her choice knowing his/her vote counted and also holds the candidate accountable when he/she wins. Democracy has been strengthened by the tireless efforts of these election officials.

At 56:50 you state that "up until the time of Nasser, the Egyptians did not really regard that material as belonging as part of their culture because they were like, 'we're Arab.' which is why you had..." and then you theorize that due to this, they apparently handed off artifacts to Western archeologists, and that modern Egyptians definitively recognized that they were not related to ancient Egyptians biologically, but that ancient Egyptian culture was still part of their heritage. I want to know what evidence you have for these claims, specifically this early Arab identity? As far as historiography goes, Arab identity is very new (ironically, beginning in the Nasser era) and only ever referred to people that were traditional Bedouin tribes originating in the Arabian peninsula, at least in a genealogical sense, and to some extent still applies (see citizenship requirements in Gulf states). Yes, Egyptians began speaking Arabic around the 8th century CE, albeit in a very gradual process for the Arabization process to be complete, but we don't have any evidence of an Arab identity espoused by Egyptians that isn't either a result of pan-Arab sentiment starting in the late 19th century largely in response to Ottoman and British colonialism or folk beliefs about genealogy common in the Muslim World; an example being Pakistan wherein to align itself away from India and westward towards the Islamic Middle East often eschewed an "Arab origin" mythology, usually as being descendants of Muhammad as a symbol of religious status. I also want to know how you reconcile your claim of Egyptians for the most part not seeing themselves as progenitors of ancient Egyptian civilization when Taha Hussein, one of the foremost 20th century Egyptian intellectuals, on August 12th 1933 said: [quote] إن الفرعونية متأصلة فى نفوس المصريين ، وستبقى كذلك بل يجب أن تبقى وتقوى ، والمصرى فرعونى قبل أن يكون عربياً ولا يطلب من مصر أن تتخلى عن فرعونيتها وإلا كان معنى ذلك : اهدمى يا مصر أبا الهول والأهرام، وانسى نفسك واتبعينا ... لا تطلبوا من مصر أكثر مما تستطيع أن تعطى ، مصر لن تدخل فى وحدة عربية سواء كانت العاصمة القاهرة أم دمشق أم بغداد1933 Translated: "Pharaonism is rooted in the souls of the Egyptians, and it will remain so, rather it must remain and strengthen, and the Egyptian is a Pharaoh before he was an Arab. Seize Oh Egypt, Sphinx and the pyramids; forget yourself and follow us...do not ask from Egypt more than you can give, Egypt will not enter into an Arab unity, whether the capital is Cairo, Damascus or Baghdad." [end of quote] You then state that Sudan had begun taking an Indigenous perspective towards its own archeology even though Sudan at this stage was just as Arabized as Egypt: there is even an argument of Sudan being moreso Arabized as some coastal Sudanese populations have tribal connections to the Hejaz since ancient times and modern Arabization policies were more violent in Sudan due to the large non-Arabic speaking populations in the territory during the 18th and 19th centuries; a very similar situation to Algeria, yet you don't state any of this. Are you then not making the implication that an Indigenous perspective can only be taken when a population of people are racialized (in this case as Black) in a modern Western-centric sense? And if so, why the conflation of race with Indigeneity?

And let me clear up one more thing. Nubian is used generically to talk about various groups occupying the Nubian Nile Valley in the ancient past. There are modern-day Nubians living in Egypt and Sudan still speaking their Nubian languages. There is evidence of some form of the Nubian language dating back to the Kushite period in Nubia.

@@fabbeyonddadancer None of the writings on Meherpri state he is NHSy. Name the artifact that does. It's a simple request. In none does it state he is NHSw or from Ta-Sety or any nation South of Kemet proper. So if it it is this certain, name the artifact that states where he is foreign.

My there is quite a discussion going on here. First, let me clear up a few things. There seems to be a conflation of the terms Nubian and Egyptian with race. I never claimed the people of Egypt were "White" and going from Mai-Her-Pri being Nubian to Egyptians being non-African is a leap that I did not and would not make. In my lecture, I used the term "obviously" because there were people in the audience who had attended other lectures in the past and were acquainted with Mai-Her-Pri because we had partaken in that discussion before. Secondly, there is material culture evidence of Mai-Her-Pri's Nubian-ness, particularly his Book of the Dead papyrus. On it, he is depicted with certain ornaments (a choker, necklace, armlets, bracelets) that are seen in depictions of Nubians in both Egypt and Nubia. It's a signal to where they are from, but it's not a racial statement. People living in the ancient Nile Valley were African and they migrated up and down and across the Nile for millennia, and some carried or wore symbols of their group identity, which is often reflected in their burial goods. Moreover, Nubian is a generic term for several different groups living in the Nubian Nile Valley and that is evident from the column drums found at Amenhotep III's temple at Soleb in Upper Nubia. To be able to identify them as a specific group of Nubian doesn't mean that they are not Nubian or not African, it would just identify the group of which they were a part. Another bit of evidence is found in the text of Mai-Her-Pri's BoD scroll where he was identified as a "child of the royal nursery" meaning that he was someone from outside of the royal family brought in to be educated under the eyes of the pharaoh. These were the children of nobles and elites, mostly from outside of Egypt so that they could be educated according to Egyptian ways with the intent that they would be sent back home to serve in leadership positions. Since Egypt colonized both Lower and Upper Egypt at the beginning of the 18th Dynasty, the time period in which Mai-Her-Pri lived and died, it is likely that he was the son of a Nubian noble or chief who was sent as a youth to Egypt (see the Nubian tribute wall scene in the tomb of Huy) and was still serving there when he died as a relatively young man. The fact that he was buried in the Valley of the Kings suggests that he did something truly remarkable to warrant such an honor. I appreciate the discussion, and hopefully, I've cleared up some things, but don't misunderstand me. The Africanity of Nubia and Egypt are not at issue for me. Peace.

See alot of you Egyptologist and nubianologist just need to be less political correct when dealing with these Afrocentric egyptocentric adherents . Dynastic Egyptians were bio phenotypically /morphologically and culturally distinct from southerns in Sudan I don’t know why this is so far hard to acknowledge. If you aren’t going to call modern Egyptians African when they are the closest population groups they bio morphologically /phenotypically cluster with dynastic Egyptians and also have a cultural continuum then it may seem iffy to call dynastic Egyptians african . Interesting presentation btw do you have any more coming up ?

He should've included that the famines in the USSR were mainly state-manufactured since Stalin sent soldiers in to block off the people from gaining outside food, remove all grain and food found anywhere, and fill their body quotas. These famines, especially the Ukrainian famine, were run in order to remove the "two-steps-back" people, as Karl Marx spoke of in the Communist Manifesto. These famines killed over 20 million. This is well documented with video evidence which has come out in recent years. Otherwise, this was a well-made presentation.

The idea of 'Nubia' is not simply about creating a "second rate" civilization for Africans separate from Egypt. It is about creating an artificial border of "black Africa" around Aswan and making everything below Aswan part of the "Near East", "Mediterranean" or "Near East". And that usage continues to this day, even though academics claim that it doesn't. In ancient times, before the Roman era, there was no unified political, ethnic, cultural, linguistic or national entity called "Nubia". So the very idea of "Nubia" in ancient times is purely a construct of European historiography, implicitly designed to segregate African history around this construct of a magical barrier between "black Africa" and the rest of the world in ancient times. Keep in mind that most of the history of the Nile Valley going back over 10 and 20 thousand years is found precisely in the areas called "Nubia". However, that history is called "Egyptian" even though it is in the area they claim as "Nubian". So it is all about artificial boundaries for Africans that has nothing to do with the flow of the Nile or human history along the Nile. The Nile Valley is a key corridor for human evolution leading up to the Neolithic and the advanced civilization of Egypt and the Near East is a result of that evolution as a result of ongoing migrations of Africans carrying advanced skills for survival. But that history is being inverted in the current scholarship which is trying to say that the Nile below Aswan was populated by Eurasian "back migrations' long before the rise of civilization and hence those people weren't really Africans. All of which is a complete crock of nonsense.
I've been wondering about this for years. When I found out about Rosewood, FL and Tulsa, OK (Blackwallstreet), I purchased Marco Williams' documentary "Banished". After watching that, I knew that there were more stories of this kind. However, I didn't have a lot of luck finding anymore. Then I acquired the book "Buried in the Bitter Waters" and I found a pot of gold. I was curios if Mr. Jaspin did anything on CSPAN which may have been recorded an ended up on youtube and that's what landed me at this spot. I'm so happy I did. Thank you for your work Mr. Jaspin.
