If you get a hollow sound, the tile doesn’t have enough mortar under it
@richnoplanbee8 күн бұрын
That is correct. Despite laying Ditra down as an underlayment and using a 1/2" notched trowel we were left with voids. I drilled a 1/8' hole in the grout lines and used a caulk gun to squeeze the Fix A Floor product into the voids. This product has worked well for this issue. Here is a link to a full video using the product. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ombMqp-afpWSptU

You could explain what this is about
@richnoplanbee8 күн бұрын
In our home remodel we laid 800 sq. ft. of tile using a 1/2" notched trowel and a spinner spacer system over Ditra. Despite all those efforts, we were left with some hollow sounds under some tiles indicating that there was a gap between the tile and the thinset that was troweled. I drilled a 1/8' hole in the grout lines and used a caulk gun to squeeze the Fix A Floor product into the voids. This product has worked well for this issue. @@richnoplanbee what size drill bit did you use? Thanks
@richnoplanbeeАй бұрын
@@kauaireed9006 I used a 1/8' drill bit which was the same size recommended to drill into the tube. That was also the same size of my grout lines. I cut the very end of the tip of Fix A Floor to make the smallest hole possible. This allowed for the tip to fit into the hole I drilled. Hope this helps!

You two do great work. And I have always been of the opinion that only hacks leave the spacers down. I can't tell you how many of those I have seen popping through the grout around Ohio. Since moving here I've come up with a new mantra which I think you truly embody: "The fastest way to do any task is to do it right the first time." -Todd A.

Did you forget to back butter or not use directional troweling on the thinset?
@richnoplanbeeАй бұрын
We did back butter ever tile using a 1/4” notched trowel. We eventually switched to a 1/2” notched trowel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2SYhqKqd5iphpI

@@richnoplanbeeI got you, yeah the half inch notched trowel would fill in a lot better. Every time I do something with tiles there's always something I wish I would have done after it's all done LOL.

@richnoplanbee3 ай бұрын
I found this method by watching this guy - www.youtube.com/@diypainting. He also had a video on the Wagner Flexio 5000 which I was skeptical about, but still went ahead and made the purchase. I would recommend it since it put a nice finish on the cabinets. That's a video I'll put out in a couple of weeks since I just finished putting all the doors and drawer faces on yesterday.

I have used plaster of Paris to do this on smaller objects. Wonder if you could use a scraper before sanding to cut down on dust.
@richnoplanbee3 ай бұрын
I'll have to try plaster of Paris on my next project. Didn't think of that. I just used what I had on had from texturing our walls. I'll also consider a scraper since I feel like I used too much on some doors and it took more in sanding time.
