Ermione IMHO è tra le opere più difficili di Rossini per il soprano la grande scena del secondo atto è terribile per lunghezza, intensità emotiva e drammaticità. È un ruolo da vero soprano drammatico e anche vocalmente richiede tantissimo. Poche cantanti a mio avviso ne sono uscite indenni. Anastasia Bartoli quest'anno a Pesaro è la prima Ermione che mi ha davvero entusiasmato Un sogno sarebbe stato poter ascoltare Maria Callas in questo ruolo. Purtroppo alla sua epoca sarebbero mancati tutti gli altri componenti del cast. Ciò detto, la Caballe' a fine carriera ha intrapreso una sfida probabilmente superiore ai suoi mezzi. Ricordo che in quel periodo la Caballe aveva spesso problemi di salute per cui arrivava alle recite piuttosto impreparata o annullava le recite all'ultimo .momento Devo dire però che se le perdoniamo qualche momento di difficoltà vocale nei passi più ardui o qualche amnesia qui e la' il personaggio di Ermione c'è e il carisma della grande cantante anche. Ricordo che il pubblico si divise, da una parte gli haters della Caballe' dall'altra la gran parte del pubblico che nonostante qualche defaillance aveva comunque apprezzato la performance.

A minority opinion: I find Boulez's approach to music to be antithetical to that of Mahler. Boulez adheres strictly to the notes in the score in an extraordinarily Apollonian manner. Thus his concept of phrasing becomes limited. Mahler is the Dionysian who clearly states in his scores (and by implication) the important concepts of hesitation, uncertainty, rubato, freedom, etc. Boulez is uncomfortable with those concepts and as a result his Mahler comes up quite short for me. Also, Mahler as a conductor took many liberties with the music of other composers, something Boulez would never do.

Not her normal voice. The larynx is high and the head and chest are disconnected. She does better ill than some do well nowadays - the Met is a prime example.

How I wish Kaufmann had chosen to record his album of Liszt songs back in 2012! His voice was so much better suited to the vocal demands then than in the CD eventually released in 2021. There is still much to enjoy in the later renditions, but this is really thrilling.

Everybody is blaming the booers. To me the one to be blamed is the soprano and so are the organizers of ROF who showed no respect of the audience. The reaction was well deserved because Italians truly love opera and that night they felt insulted by the undecent performance by one of the most important singer of the last century.

I think it is infinitely better with a tenor (THIS tenor :-).... in the mezzo role. Once you hear it done this way the original sounds a bit lacking.

Toda a gente sabe que Gustav Mahler não era apenas um extraordinário compositor, mas igualmente um excelente maestro. Pois bem! O mesmo sucede com Pierre Boulez. Exímia interpretação esta, bem personalizada, com laivos musicais de contemporaneidade. Vídeo de excelente qualidade, tanto ao nível da imagem como do som. Coisa boa! Ver e a rever.

Oh this is so lovely. What a gorgeous voice Jonas Kaufmann has. It's so rich, velvety, warm and strong. He is such a great, expressive, performer. Again, Helmut Deutsch works wonders on the piano. I love Strauss lieder and Jonas is a master interpreter of them.

Yesh! hic! I'll finish-ish-ish the wine hic! Pardon me hic! An-an meet hic! behind, thingy - prickly thingies - pink! hehehe hic! Roses - thassit - hic! Thunk! (falls down drunk behind a rose Bush.) Brilliantly, expressive interpretation by Jonas Kaufmann just brings this lied alive. He is so skilled at performing lieder. Wonderful piano accompaniment by Helmut Deutsch.
