My go-to stick baits for trolling Erie are Berkley Flicker Minnows for deep trolling, and Smithwick suspending Rattlin' Rogue especially during early May when those Walleye are up in shallow waters. Everything blasts the Smithwicks, and you only have to throw them 20-30 ft off the back of the boat to get them into their ideal 6-8 ft depth ranges...I've caught many smallmouth on them (some huge), walleyes hammer them hard. It's fun to catch smallmouth on the Smithwick suspending Rogues and watching them rocket out of the water when they're hooked.

Great video dude! I love using those great value shrimps but i like to use raw instead of cooked. Also, i have had great success by threading the shrimp onto my circle hook so the point comes out the thin side of it. Watch out for turtles tho, they are some damn bait thieves!!

Never got big into fishing as a kid. Recently been wanting to get into it and hunting more. My grandfather was an excellent fisher and hunter. I was planning on having him teach me all of these things, but he unfortunately passed away. I wish he was here to teach me, but this video was great!

Ok I was always told to get enough line to go from the but of the pole tie off there then go through the eyelet tie off there that way if you get something big and brake the tip off you can still pull in that big fish...

Yeah, don’t use sponges. Probably illegal everywhere considering it’s littering. Littering fine is a lot more expensive than worms, can always just harvest them as well then they’re free

Also fish won’t be able to digest it, or if they come off a bird or anything else that might eat it. Probably out there killing a bunch of stuff on accident

Used yesterday for trolling for lake striper and they worked great. Thought about changing to inline hooks. Has anyone tried this and does it affect action?

After two years of using the catfish special baitcasting (orange ones), I've come full circle back to the white ones. With this rod it's a moderate fast tip. Which is more than soft enough. With the catfish special the tip is moderate and quite flimsy. Makes it hard to get a good cast. Plus I'm finding that a 7-ft rod is easier to work with and can pretty much cast the same distance as an 8 ft without the added struggle. Also better for fishing in tight spots where there's not much room to cast.

Do you feel the catfish drop the bait after they feel the fixed sinker versus using a slip sinker or sinker slide?

They've gone to a more conventional reel seat nut. It seems to work at not loosening, even though it is non-ratcheting.

I bought some reel magic and wasnt really impressed . I didnt get any farther in my casts . I went back to wd40 silicone . With wd40 silicone , I get longer casts . I spray it on a let it dry . It does great for me and has for years .

I went fishing here in Michigan with my brother-in-law years ago...he was a minimalist fisherman bringing along only his fishing pole with a white striped black pre-rigged worm, while I had my four tackle boxes chocked full of every bass lure you could find...and he outfished me 4 to 1.
