All of this, or something similar, most definitely happened in the final version of the movie, but it's kind of left in open air and I like that just a bit? Like, we can guess that when Leo, Casey, and Mikey were running away in the opening it was because they were either ambushed or compromised in some way, and here in this storyboard it was most likely because their base was found out. But, while I do love this storyboard so much and seeing how the characters survived in the apocalypse and how Leo ran the resistance would've been amazing to see, and I kind of feel like if the show was continued or if the movie could afford more time that something similar to this storyboard could've or would've been shown, I like the final product more only for how it handled Casey being sent back in time. Here it was originally a team plan thing that got clothes-lined, which I feel like was still the case in the movie, but Casey wasn't a part of the team and was told to stay behind, when I feel like Leo would say the total opposite and the writers of the movie probably felt the same way, and so changed it (though, they also changed the scene for other reasons I'm sure). Casey got sent back in time to save the world, sure, but Leo also sent him back in time to save him, and I'm thankful for the movie making that the final initiative.

Personally, I think Casey was shown in a more lovable light in the original, while his badassness levels were raised here. Overall, I'd say this version gives a more clear and dark version of the future while it shows the characters in a different light than in the movie.

They removed it because later Casey shouts "Everybody is dead!" at Leo, and that argument was more impactful than Donnie just feeling kind of disturbed about his possible death in a future that might not be, especially since we never find out what really happened to him (He clearly lost his battle-shell somehow).

Quiero pensar que la quitaron por exceso de violencia pero en mi punto de vista le abría dado un toque más serio a la película, después de todo en TMNT tenemos comics como The last Ronin que no se tocan el corazón con los personajes así que no veo el porque no lo pusieron.

my gosh, the start of this still has me holding my breath! It's so (for me) scary. This movie went hard, as it was, but even the rejected drafts were intense! So amazing!

Honestly I love the final intro but I love the whole scene we get with grown up Leo, being strict and understanding with his resistance still screwing around a bit too with the “wahhh” battle call but over all being a hardened version of himself. I really would’ve loved to see this but I’m really happy with the final result it was amazing

Why in gods name was this not in the final cut. This scene adds so much, we get to see more of future Leo and Mickey and future April. And we see how truly bliek the future is and the threat the krang pose.
