The recognition problem with flahscards occurs even with comeplete and relatively long sentences. I noticed that when I was using Anki. I would start my Anki session and as soon as the beginning of a sentence I already know appeared on screen, I was able to say it out loud in my target language but in a robotic manner, not really thinking of it or visualizing the situation described by the sentence.

I must say, i dislike this method. I mean if u need to learn vocabs fast, quick n dirty for ur exame, then go for it. Imo, that s where u start developing ur foreign accent. Since there s no grammar and no audio involved. I recommend using anki(electronic flashcards). Depending on ur leving sentence cards over vocab cards(if u use vocab cards, get example sentence/s). Use Audio, native audio's the best. If u only want to pass the ur class/test, then don t follow my advice, but the video instead and immerse s bit in a topic of ur choice.

Hi . I only found this video about my wordlist thingy because it was mentioned on the Llorg forum (language Learners), but I like your presentation. I can see that you have 5 columns, at that actually means that you can integrate the repetition round - that's a fine addition to my own version of the method, where I keep the repetition separate from the original list. And doing the whole thing in a spreadsheet is also an interesting idea, but I personally learn more when I write by hand.
@RubenQuinones1 Жыл бұрын
Honored to read your comment on my video! I think my adaptations of your technique have translated well to a classroom environment, where I can print a bunch of copies and students know what to do. They like to fold the paper so that they only see the last completed column. Like you, I believe that writing the words out by hand helps them stick better. Lately I've been using the Iversen method with Hungarian words that resist repeated exposures in context. I'm happy to know that my tweaks have helped spread the word about your excellent technique.

I am struck by how much German influence there seems to be on Swedish vocabulary, even if much of it is more Low than High German.

I had studied a bit of German, basic at best, but I felt it gave me an advantage when I took on the Scandinavian languages. I'm sure the reverse would be true if I were to return to German.

Do you still use this technique all these years later?
@RubenQuinones13 жыл бұрын
Yes, I do, but I never print out a paper like that. I just write six words in a column in my notebook, then draw a vertical line to the right and follow the six-at-a-time rule. For the past year, I've been using Clozemaster to learn many words, but some words just don't seem to stick. When a word needs extra attention, it's time for the Iversen Method.
@StewartLikesYoutube3 жыл бұрын
I was trying this today and I'm just curious about two things. So you write First 6 of L2, Translate those 6 to L1, Write Second 6 of L2, Translate Second 6 to L1, Write Third 6 of L2, translate third 6 to L1, and THEN you go back to first 6 and translate from L1 back into L2. Right? Have you tried a list longer than 18 at a time per session?
@RubenQuinones13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking. That process is correct. I probably have tried more than eighteen at a time, but I don't normally have that many words I'm working on at one session. I usually do twelve or eighteen at once. I like to do more than just six to create some of the space so that I'm not relying on the fact that I just saw this a few seconds ago but really engraving it in my mind and then recalling it correctly. What language are you working on?

Ruben Quinones I absolutely love the Korean language! I’ve been trying to learn it for several years now though, and so far the only thing that really helped me much was actually going to language school and talking to classmates in Korean. I’ve really been looking forward to reading books though since I can’t afford language school at the moment. I’m definitely going to try it out after my college homework dies down haha

@@peachywyvern7999 The great thing about language school is the pacing. Classes force you to keep up, whereas you'll sometimes find yourself slowing down when you're studying on your own, just because the material is not so interesting, or other things get in the way. I have a weekly tutor right now for Hungarian, something I've never done before. Having that to look forward to every week has been getting me through this pandemic and has forced me to make steady progress. Thanks for you comment on this video. I've been using it a bunch this week after you reminded me of how simple and useful it is!
