I’m moving out in to an apartment in May with my partner for the first time, we’re both students going into our 4th year. This video was really helpful as up until now we’ve only ever experienced bills included in rent. I look forward to looking around and getting a decent deal on our gas, electric, water and WiFi! Cheers for the video!

do you believe companies such as fused bills are worth me and my flatmate using?
@samueltemple-baxter93432 жыл бұрын
They can be, most bill companies are worth using if you don't want the hassle of doing your own bills. If there are only two and you are good friends and willing to go 50/50 then you could do it yourselves. It's more complex when there are 5/6 people in a house. I would definitely recommend shopping around for different bill companies because some charge, some don't, and they all have different offerings as well.

any videos of outside courtyard mentioned on your website?
@samueltemple-baxter93433 жыл бұрын
There are some in Birmingham with outdoor courtyards. This one has plenty of social spaces including a garden. There are still some of these rooms left if that helps?

Joining a society is definitely a great way to meet new people and get involved with groups at uni, such an important video!

Thank you. Yes, absolutely! I found I got to know much more people than those who just did the course and from all over the uni! Like the channel by the way, I've just worked with my marketing friend to do market research on the student accommodation space super simple but many don't do it!

@@samueltemple-baxter9343 it's actually something I wish I'd done more of as people on societies seemed to have so much fun. And thank you!! Definitely something that could benefit more people if they knew about it!

We have income-based repayment schemes (with discharge after 10, 20 or 25 years depending on the specific plan and the borrower's job) for student loans in the USA. It's unclear what percentage of those loans will eventually be paid back, but in your country, it seems that an 80%+ non-repayment rate is unsustainable in the long run.
@samueltemple-baxter93434 жыл бұрын
In the USA what interest are you charged? In the UK students have a 5.4% interest as soon as they take the loan and can only start paying when they reach the certain criteria. However, yes I agree, it is a lot of money to wipe off the table each year, especially when our fees are now 9K plus per year for students!

@@samueltemple-baxter9343 I have two student loans through the government. One loan has 5.31% interest, and the other has 6.625% interest. Most government student loans in the states carry an interest rate between 4% and 7%; the exact rate varies a bit each year and is determined by Congress. At the moment, however, interest accrual and payments on government student loans have been suspended through at least Sept. 30 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The repayment threshold for a single person on an income-based student loan payment plan in the USA is approximately $19,500 USD. This increases slightly each year per inflation. Substantially higher repayment thresholds apply if the borrower has children or other dependents.

@@Derek032789 interesting, the UK has a flat % of around 5.34 I think and it starts as soon as you take the loan! 7& seems a bit steep when you think of the amount you end up owing and considering what you have to earn to pay it back! What % do you pay back if you earn more than 19.5K? Interesting though as I am not sure if the UK takes in to account the dependents who might live with the graduate!
@Derek0327894 жыл бұрын
@@samueltemple-baxter9343 The repayment rate is 10% of income above the ~$19,500 threshold. It's a complicated system because there are many other repayment options, and the student loan interest is tax deductible.
