That's good they have those services. It's hard enough being a farmer, working 12+ hour days sometimes for 300+ days in a row, but at least farmers can go home at the end of the day, or call a half-day to go into town if they really want to. Months at sea without at least some comforts of home would be maddening. That was something officers had to deal with in the sailing ship days - how do they keep the sailors from a mutiny over a 15-month voyage? There was music, dice games etc., alcohol rations and shore leave, when possible, but not much else besides harsh discipline. A lot of crews *did* mutiny, or lose men to suicide or madness. Tough job - no wonder Britain had to send press gangs out to kidnap people to work on their vast fleet of ships.

I was on a 594 class Fast Attack Submarine. I had a hidey hole in my work space and before a long underway, I'd buy two full tubes of Copenhagen snuff cans for about 5 bucks a tube. I'd wait until all the dippers ran out of chew, then break out my stash and sell them for 5 bucks a can and make enough money to enjoy the next liberty port stop.

These sailors are SO SPOILED. I knew there were stores on ships, but I imagined that the only things they sold were Uncle Sam branded cigarettes and gum at $100 a pack... LOL!
@jakeMontejo3272Күн бұрын
wtf- they selling cigs ?!? They’re out to sea for months which is a perfect time for someone to quit. And they’re selling garbage food to these kids. Also- was that condoms on the wall?

82 to 88 antisubmarine squadrons VS-41 and VS-33 AZ2 USS Ranger CV-61 and the USS Kitty Hawk CV-63 ..the Ranger had a small store with hardly anything in it and a smoke shop and the Kitty Hawk had a nice store with everything you could want and a smoke shop but the snake shop was a hole in the wall and it was walk up service and it sucked so both cruises my family would send be boxes of the items I needed.

If I was Captain... I'd have to Super Troll the crew. Maybe let the cooks in on it ahead of time, but wait until the largest meal is being consumed. Then do an Emergency Surface, blow the ballast tanks maneuver. It would be a good and mostly harmless prank... guys got to be ready 24/7 on a sub.

Think it's funny they allways wants discounts and crap. You get paid for your service just like any other job. Should I give my garbage man a discount where ever he goes since he keeps the garbage collected and keeps rats from being every where. Nope because he gets paid thats his job. No one made you join the military not sure why they feel so entitled. You chose that as your job you get paid for your service.

Why do the crew have to pay? The amount of cash being burned per hour to power that ship. A tiny percentage of that would keep everyone happy as clams.

I dont get them having to pay for stuff aboard their own ship. Everything should be free. Taxpayers money and government military funds should cover everything for these folk who do it all for the country.. I come from military on both sides of my family and then my step families. Ill also say vets should not have to pay taxes.
