@Tightline_angler2 ай бұрын
You sure that stick in the pond wasn’t metal? Also, I’m not sure what kind of braid you’re using but i would switch it up. 30lb braid shouldn’t fray and snap on a stick. You should look at Seagaur smack down or Power Pro. I hammered this bass in open water and it barely budged. It was big.

It is an odd lake to say the least. I do like how few boats you see when you’re out there. I bet I only saw 4-5 between prefishing and the tourney. It’s got some great offshore grass, I just couldn’t get it to produce. I appreciate my man. I see you’ve been having a good time down gville. Punching is something I definitely need to do more of.

How do you rig your tubes c
@Tightline_angler3 ай бұрын
I like a 4/0 to 5/0 straight shank trokar hook. I’ll go through the top of the tube, once the barb of the hook is no longer visible I come back out of tube. Then I’ll pull the rest of the hook through until the eyelet of the hook and my knot are no longer visible and inside the tube. Then I’ll take the hook point, go inside the bottom of the tube and at the base of the tube where the solid rubber meets the flaps I’ll push the hook point through and then skin hook it back into the body of the tube so it doesn’t snag. Send me your email and I’ll send you some photos to help show you 🤙🏻

Barren is my home lake. I fish there over a 100 days a year. Also fish in our brfl league tournaments. Prespawn is spinnerbait time down here. Back in march, during our first tournament of the year, the winner had a 24lb bag. His big fish was almost 7lb. Unfortunately, after march and april, the fishing gets horrible lol. 13lb won the other night. I think only 10 people out of almost 70 boats weighed in fish lol. So yeah, winter and early spring is the right time of year to be on barren. The fall topwater bite can be good at times as well
@Tightline_angler4 ай бұрын
It’s crazy you say that because that’s how the top three bags were caught. 20lbs won the tourney that day. I couldn’t ever get that bite going but I think that has more to do with me not throwing the right spinnerbait while also not being in the right locations for it. It seems like a great winter to spring lake especially when it’s drawn down.
@Tightline_angler4 ай бұрын
What’s your favorite size / blade combo for the lake? I tried several different ones in practice with no luck.
@brandonwoodcock43744 ай бұрын
@@Tightline_angler in early prespawn through spawn, any white, double willow blade will usually work when the waters fairly clear. Usually 1/2 Oz size. I like the Zman ones myself. But if it's dirtier water, then big willow with a smaller colorado. Berkley makes a good type of those. It also helps when the wind is blowing pretty good. They are usually up really shallow, around any kind of rocky, pea gravel banks that time of year. Winter time I've found them on deeper points, or in the backs of deep pockets chasing baitfish
@Tightline_angler4 ай бұрын
Makes a lot of sense. I definitely plan on going back up there to fish this fall / winter / spring. Nichols lures makes a Colorado / Indiana blade combo that I love to slow roll in early spring. The dirtier the water the better. The coleslaw color is my favorite.

I was Old Hickory years ago in hot summer trolling for sauger and walleye when I saw thousands of shad jumping . I put on a topwater and was catching 14 to 16 inch bass every cast and it was 93 outside in hot afternoon. A guy I had met on the water before pulled up in his boat and caught a 7 pound bass. This guy pulled up in a jet ski and watched us for an hour catch fish after fish. I offered him a rod and reel but he declined.The next day I came back and he was there in his brand new bass boat he went and bought after seeing us catch a hundred fish.lol

@docriordan77874 ай бұрын
You're in the zone! Wear it out while it works. If you can find 2 ditches that come together with grass around, it's for sure a bassin thumb day. I have dropped TM in the mud and never move my 14' Jon and catch 14-18# with only a flipping stick and small black popping frog. And win the small wildcat tourneys plus big fish. It was like the Bill Dance saying, 90% of the bass in 10% of the water, and I had it till winter draw down.

Took it home and ate it. lol I carried my tween daughter and her friends to Burgess Falls and i was catch small catfish and a turtle when i hooked something huge it was a bluegill almost 3 lbs. I had never seen one that big. It was so white i thought it was a drum at first. I showed a guy beside me and was trying to decide what to do with it when it flopped out of my hands and back in the water. The big ones we caught in FL were almost black.
