Khmer alphabet never came from samkirt (might be older) If anything it influenced from Egyptian writing system depicted on ancient Egyptian wall found buried inside tomb dating back 3000 B.C or so. CAMBODIA was known as Kambujadas before Preah Thong venture into East Indie aka Southeast Asia aka Suwanipumi (Island / Land Of The Gold). Mekong river was called Kambujadan river by ancient Roman explorer dating back 1 century A.D. Well recorded and you can find these historical personal diary. Meaning no need for water down historian lies. Khner language isn't influenced by Samkirt but we shared same family ancestor. That's like saying Munda Indians aren't Indian because they share Mon Khmer bloodline more. Mon Khmer Dna been in India since Indus Valley discovered by archeologists...

Portuguese is one of these, being 6th most spoken language in the world, in a lot countries and very similar to Spanish with high mutual intelligibility. Portuguese is also the third language most spoken in some states of US, as Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Utah and others.

It's more complicated than that. Khasi in Northern India related to Mon Khmer family too but heavily influenced by India more. Khasi feature and tongue identical related to Khmer in Cambodia. Many word in Khasi used by modern day Khmer example like Tiger / Khala. Ancient Khmer Empire at it peak dated back around 2000 B.C to 1200 B.C not 1200 A.D mention today..
