This is one of my favorite bands, and they have been for a very long time. But all these years later, after reading Justin’s open letter, something is off. Not everything he said in that statement was crazy. It’s upsetting to me that we will probably never get the full story.

Great interview. Can you tell me about the technical stuff? How did you set up the camera - was it on a tripod? What mic did you use? And the lighting - street lighting?
@PecksMetalPicks Жыл бұрын
Yep, the camera was on a tripod. The mic was basically a lapel mic because I needed it to be compatible with the GoPro I was using to film (I think GoPro 4 or 5). And yeah, just street lighting behind the venue. Obviously all super low budget haha, but it was really cool to have the chance to do the interview.

I am going to go with a Logitech C-920 for now, to do my interviews, and we'll see how it goes. Your info about the Go Pro and Tripod combo really helps me visualize what is needed. And, your interview - it was really inspiring - I just loved it. It had a raw, personal and engaging feeling. It's the kind of tone I hope to have in my interviews. To address a few things: Anthony and I talked for 15 minutes before the interview started while I set everything up. I ran the questions by him ahead of time so he knew I was going to ask about Justin. As I was setting up, he talked about Justin's death in more detail than he was willing to talk about on camera. When the interview started, I knew Anthony was going to give a vague answer to protect Justin and his family's privacy because that's exactly what he told me he was going to do. I agree that I could have asked the question more tactfully, but by the time the interview started, asking about Justin was more of a formality since we had already discussed it and both knew how the question/response would go. I also just want to say that Anthony and I were joking about the cold weather and some other band stories to lighten the mood before recording which is why my demeanor isn't as somber as it should have been. Of all my interviews, this is the one I wish I could change the most. Anthony is a great guy and I had the chance to interview him again a few years later - his wife and daughter sat across from us in the tour bus and watched which was pretty cool. Expanding on why the "Pain Remains" trilogy of songs is the "it" factor Lorna Shore needed: Those songs and the story they tell will stick with listeners. Each time I listen to them, I'll remember how I felt watching the music videos for the first time. That impact will add to the album's longevity and help it rise above the standard two year album cycle, turning it into something that people continue to revisit.

Also the line “body count competition” in Honey Revenge takes on new meaning. Body count competition just means you’re trying to have sex with as many people as possible and get your body count as high as possible. So if you mix that line with the whether you want it or not line….

Call me old fashioned, but this is what happens when consent is the highest standard for sex. This is what happens when love and understanding and wisdom is entirely disregarded. I think there’s a wisdom in waiting til marriage, where love and consent are a given, and you’ve progressed enough in the relationship to know what eachother wants. Just plain consent with a random stranger can be subjective and open to interpretation. Clearly it was in this case. Dudes need to stop coercing and raping chicks and on the flip side chicks don’t go home with a random stranger expecting he’s going to show you his Pokémon card collection and talk about his feelings. That’s not what he’s trying to do.

@PecksMetalPicks2 жыл бұрын
Jonny has a section of his Wikipedia dedicated to controversies. Three of those entries are related to sexual assault allegations. In 2017, numerous women accused him of sexual assault and rape, which led to Artery Recordings dropping Slaves (the band he was in at the time). So no, I don't think he would be a great choice.

He’s admitted to being intimate with both girls. The second girl he apologized to and then said he’s going to get help. What makes you think he didn’t do this?
@PecksMetalPicks2 жыл бұрын
1. He literally admitted that it happened (but said he thought it was consensual). He stepped away from the band and is "entering an intensive therapy program to address this issue head on...doing the work necessary to ensure this never happens again." I'm not sure what part of that makes you think he did nothing wrong. 2. From what I can tell, the women aren't pressing charges which means this issue isn't going to court. Without a trial, he won't be "proven guilty." That does not necessarily mean he is innocent.

Why the fuck would you think it’s appropriate to kick the interview off with a question like that. even they way it was asked was super disrespectful, you can see immediately how uncomfortable it made Anthony feel, still grieving while still making his tour commitments, inappropriate to even ask to interview him, he would’ve only agreed to talk just because he’s a really nice dude, and does it for the fans.

Thanks for calling me out on that, not sure why I didn't do a little extra work to track it down. Here is ETID's initial statement for everyone's awareness: "Mental Health is a real issue and when not treated has an impact on so many people. Keith needs to take this time to rest and prepare for the holiday shows and we wish him a quick recovery. We also understand that so many of you have been looking forward to these last few shows on our tour. We don't want to let you down so we’ll be playing these last three shows without a vocalist. Like Keith always says ’this mic is your mic’. So come and help us finish up this tour. Anyone that no longer wants to attend will be given refunds at point of purchase." Then, after Keith responded to the above statement, the band deleted it and wrote, "We apologize to the fans this weekend for the cancelation of the remaining 3 shows of the Radical Tour. Keith Buckley is a crucial part of Every Time I Die and we apologize if our previous statement made it seem as if he was in recovery or came off as insensitive to the issues at hand. We are working on things privately now. Please give us a moment. And we will see you all at Tid The Season." As I mentioned in the video, I don't think the initial statement is particularly offensive, and although it could have been worded better, it was likely the result of the band being blindsided by Keith's decision to sit out the remaining shows.

It was always a blast seeing and playing with everyone back then, But one thing seems to have stayed exactly the same all these years. Scenesters are Pretentious motherfuckers. Gatekeeping is so close minded. Especially in HC! It’s a scene of unity and comradery Why exclude on your brothers or sisters for having a broad range of musical taste?
