My dad used to listen to this when I was younger. Reminds me of riding home in the evening in his pickup truck

You opened for America at DCCC in March '78. My girlfriend and I arrived with Carolina in the Pines ringing out as we rounded the concourse. I bought Lone Wolf at a record store at Six Flags Mall a couple days later. This clip answers a question I've pondered for some time - have long wondered if you and DHH had crossed paths in London (or LA). I've been blessed to catch both your (@ Kessler) and his 70th birthday shows. (Also proud to be a NTSU alum.) My original vinyl Blue Sky Night Thunder (inscribed & autographed @ Kessler), Lone Wolf, and Peaks Valleys Honky Tonks & Alleys are some of my all-time favorite albums. Great episode!

I was wounded in Vietnam in 1969 and sent home. I married one of the nurses that took care of me. We have been together for 50 years and still going strong. This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I second the comments about your parents.

I had the pleasure and privilege of hearing and meeting Michael in a small theater in Garner, NC around 2017. What a thrill after first being exposed to him when he did “Wildfire” on the Midnight Special TV show way back in 1976. A consummate professional entertainer and a gregarious fellow to the fans after the show.

After Wildfire was a hit in 1975, Michael's next few albums didn't sell as well. So in one year i saw him in Dallas 3 times in smaller venues. He did a live radio broadcast from Peaches record store on Greenville ave, then a few months later He did a whole concert outdoors at SMU, with his band on a flatbed trailer. Then He was the unannounced warmup act for the group America, that same year. It made you kind of wonder where His career was going, if He didn't have more hit songs. But then he had Whats forever for and Cherokee fiddle, then He career was revived when He leaned into the cowboy songs and poetry movement in the 1980s. So now He's had a long successful career, built on the foundation of that one big first hit Wildfire, which He still ends every show with.

Michael Martin Murphey, my number one song of all time is "What's Forever For" that song in 2024 is so important for this era. I love all your music especially "Wildfire" I am 52 years old and I still remember the first time I ever heard Wildfire was in my mom's Cadillac traveling to Cherokee, NC in 1983 we both started signing it together it is something I will never forget. I love you brother, I hope the Lord blesses you with many more years to come. God Bless and thank you for your wonderful music. ❤🙏

Why did you leave this verse out when you recorded it? . . . I've been listenin' to people And they say love is the key And it's not my way to let them lead me astray It's only that I want to believe

LOVE this tune. Murphey's voice is remarkable given his age. Not what it was, but for 79 its impressive.
You sang my favorite song I'll make my home in New Mexico and I don't live there any longer but this song makes me cry yearning to be in the mountains of New Mexico. Where can I here this song?

What can I say? This song is about me!!! I lived this and still do 50 years later! But, in order to reach new heights, I bought a 4-wheeler. As I got older, hiking became a thing of the past. But, I still got to get “far above the timberline.” May my grandson grow to love this song as much as I have and may he climb higher than me in his life! Love you, Michael Martin Murphy! Thank you for writing this one just for me! And, may my grandson listen to it for another 50 years! All my love, Kimberly G.
