Wagner was also a German nationalist. Heilige Deutsches Kunst and all that. In fact, there were national styles in music. To me, German music from Bach to the 20th C. (Mozart &Haydn excepted) had this larger than life quality. As though it was all religious. Wagner certainly fit that mold. So it should not surprise us that Nazis and other German supremacists are drawn to Wagner the man and his music.

The opening motif with the turn is taken directly from the first movement of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. It’s the oboe solo after the development section. It’s the same, note for note from the Beethoven and this sonata is in the same key as Beethoven’s 5th, which I am sure is not a coincidence. Mendelssohn was highly influenced by Beethoven of course and Mendelssohn quotes Beethoven a lot especially in his early music like this sonata. Nice homage to the older composer……

He was 15 when he wrote this, so it is probably a homage to Beethoven, an exercise, or both.

Cellists should absolutely play it! The essence probably would be retained. Some of the stuff would be exceptionally difficult, but that hasn't stopped cellists before!

It's one thing if somebody likes Wagner's music but also recognizes that he was literally a garbage human being. It's an entirely different thing when somebody genuinely likes Wagner as a person and defends him with the false statement of "uwu his antisemitism was normal for the time period".

Great playing by both. Thanks for not recording another brahms (as much as I love him). I briefly met the pianist at sick puppy a few years ago. This piece was always a tough sell for me but this is about as good as I can imagine it sounding. I used to think the pianist had the heavier workload, but the violist needs enough artistic vision and charisma to make this hold together, so I guess I changed my mind on that (my experience in hearing older recordings of this work was always underwhelming). I also seem to have a vague recollection of the andante being used in his first symphony or something like that.
@wagnersnightmare40626 ай бұрын
Thank you! The pianist might indeed have the heavier workload, but that helps make up for the viola-heavy workload when we recorded the "Arpeggione" Sonata!

True....I believe Mendelssohn was Wagner's nemesis.....His 'Walküerenrit' merely inverted the 'Fingal's Cave' main melody....like Rakhmaninov did with Paganini in Variazone 18. Cheers from Acapulco!!
@wagnersnightmare4062 Жыл бұрын
Huh, never thought of it that way! That theme has so many connections to Erda, Wotan, Donner', and Siegfried's music, but you're right, it is eerily similar to a Fingal's Cave inversion.

The reason that Hitler never quoted Judaism In Music is due to Wagner calling for the foundation of a Jewish homeland within the context of the essay. There is no call for Annihilation of Jews, or anything of the sort. It's an ugly, bigoted article to be sure, but one that insists the Jews need their own homeland so that they can create their own art, music and poetry, rather than always being foreigners in whichever country they live. That element of the essay is, ironically, rather pro Zionist.

Zionists aren't Jews, they're basically double agent Nazi cells, hence Israel and Germany supporting response to hamas

Meistersinger was Wagner's most immediate success of all his mature works. Can you please list these incidents of "booing and hissing" in respect to Beckmesser at early performances of the work? It premiered in Munich in 1868 and was extremely well received.

Agree. As a music lover, I’m neither pro neither anti… A baritone told me once that when you discover Wagner as a teenager and it helps you navigate those growing years you can become a real fan. That was never my case, and the personality of Wagner never appealed to me. Nevertheless, there are some pages that touch me because they are part of my personal musical story… Moreover, he invented a new approach to opera performance… so admired at his time, but which I think has aged pretty badly.

The problem of downloading the original file used for minting the NFT is key. I believe piracy is part of human condition, but this makes it too easy, and sets this technology for abuse. But, what if you could store your digital files in your own encrypted storage when minting your NFTs? Then, when buyers would buy an NFT, they would just have access immediate to the token (a small file), but not to the original high quality file. You could then provide the original high quality file for download only to those buyers who are aware of the use rights they are granted via a license (whatever they are: displaying/performing, or reproducing, or adapting/synchronizing)…? Intellectual Property management is paramount in NFTs if artists don’t want to looks their rights forever). I believe the desktop music player solution you suggest is a very interesting middle ground that might be implemented by NFTs marketplaces in the future… Yet, Ip rights management needs to be addressed. So, what if you could find a solution for your followers on your own website, something like P2P deals/downloads directly in your own studio using NFTs?
