The wings keep the car stable when at high speeds going around the turns 👍 on tarmac it is a bit more downforce based, extra speed

There's a lot of things that are unusual about the cars including that they are set up to be offset for driving around an oval track in a counter-clockwise direction.They don't have to have the big wings on the roof but with over 700bhp and sudden acceleration and changes of direction the extra down force can definitely help with stability on track. Also it's a great way of distinguishing the grade of car (white, yellow, blue, red top etc). When I started watching it in the early 90s it was mainly the white top rookies who didn't have the wings at that point. Instead a lot of them had a little number board on the roof. The wings have evolved over the history of the sport and most cars now use them.
