The fact that this one even had metal side curtains means that Whirlpool made good quality Air Conditioners, alongside with their Direct Drive washer from that era before they discontinued it.
@vacexpert2020Ай бұрын
I have 3 running Whirlpool units that have metal side panels, 2 from the 80s and this one, and my parents have a 2007 direct drive washer with the stainless steel tub, they've really gone downhill, and one thing you may not notice is the vent design, plenty of air conditioners both vintage and modern have vents that blow straight out, these older whirlpool units have vents that are angled upwards which reduces the amount of cold air that is recirculated
@KingHarlequin1999Ай бұрын
Gree GEs were one of their best modern air conditioner ever made, beside the styrofoam divider (it was thicker), and they used high quality parts. Unfortunately they switched their OEM to Haier (and even Midea for some models) which are cheaply made, ultra thin styrofoam divider (thinner than Gree ones), all-aluminum evaporator coils for smaller models, and cheap components. Unfortunately, the only manufacturer today that still make good quality A/Cs is LG, but only for their 10,000 BTU and above models.
@vacexpert2020Ай бұрын
@@KingHarlequin1999 the Midea built GE units are better than the Haier built units and I've been impressed with my Midea 12k inverter, not the U shaped one the regular one because it was on clearance, I have a modern Haier 5k and had an older Hair 5k and it's a night and day difference, the modern one is just so flimsy and noisy

Because it looks nice, I purchased one 12000-BTU for me and one for my son. I didn't expect that both units worked for two years only. According to the code that came up, there was a loss of refrigerant. I contacted midea customer service, and basically, they told me that there is only one year warranty even though the owners manual states that the compressor has three years warranty and the seals have five years warranty. They didn't offer any help trying to resolve the case. Really! brand new ac designed to last only two years. Basically, I spent $ 1000.00 for two pieces of garbage. I have a unit made by Sharp, and thankfully, it is still working after about 25 years.

@@DabblelyDiddly @DabblelyDiddly I own the heat pump model (MAW12HV1CWT). Got mine at Costco in 2022 for $339. Like a lot of "heat pump" (reversing valve) models, this feature will not work below +41 degrees f. It is intended as a "supplemental" heat source. I have not really tested the heat function as we get below freezing here quickly. If you live in a mild climate and just want to take the chill off the room, then yes, it's a good feature. Otherwise, skip it and go with the non-heat pump. It may just be another thing to malfunction.

I have a 40 pint whirlpool gold model that looks just like that. But mine does not have a filter even though it's so clean one could practically eat off of it.
