The best performance of this prelude EVER. Tetreault and Gapucon move as one blending the strokes of each bow perfectly.

In God's name, I simply was not expecting this to be as tender and heartbreaking as it was. There is that comedy film, "This is Spinal Tap," where the metal-head guitar virtuoso sits at the piano and demonstrates how D minor is "The saddest of all keys. Makes people weep instantly." I think there is an tendency of Classical and Jazz musicians to agree with this sentiment. And d MAJOR is the most joyous (as per Hayden's "Sunrise Symphony, in D." There is a twist to the emotion of sorrow in this light. Because the piece is not in D minor, but rather in the relative minor of D MAJOR. Therefore instead of seeing happyiess in a negative light (D minor), the music sort of reflects on the dark aspects of joy itself. Maybe the B-minor prelude is about compassion. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJupfptnoJ55ftk (a color-shape analysis did of a song here on my uTube page)

Stephane is a true genius on cello, akin to what Glenn Gould was on piano. Thank God for Canada!! The cello that he plays was lent to Stephane by a Canadian music lover who purchased it from the estate of Bernard Greenhouse. He, of course was the cellist of the Beaux Arts Trio for many years. I believe it is a Stradivarius called the "Lady Blunt". It has a magnificent sound all the way around but the richness can only be brought out by a genius player like Stephane.
