32mm but just as important is the distance between the post and the feeder port, which is 105mm. I have feeders with the same distance between the posts but the starlings can easily reach through the bars with their long necks and beaks to reach the feeder port. I have not found a commercial feeder with a large enough distance between the bars and the feeder ports which is why I designed this one. Still in the testing phase but so far the starlings have not defeated it, although they are cunning birds :-)

@gavinlipscombe9706 Thanks Gavin. Making a large bird table and will use these measurements in my build today. Have surrounded my suet ball feeder with plastic mesh to trial 38mm square holes, just measured gap between mesh and feeder and that is 80mm. However I'm going off your design and increase it to 105mm. I already got a large roll of mesh with 38mm square holes hence trialling. Can easily buy a smaller mesh if this fails but will stick to 105mm from the mesh to the table itself. Thanks again.

What editing software was used to create the effects in this video?
@gavinlipscombe97063 ай бұрын
No effects in this video, this is the capture straight out of the camera. The only editing was to cut out the uninteresting bits using avidemux.

What is the distance between the posts? I have a bluebird feeder that the starlings constantly raid.

This is a $40 wifi camera bought from Aliexpress a few years ago. It was just described as a WIFi bird box camera, from HQCam official store. I have been very impressed and it has been running almost constantly for 2 years. It has outperformed the £150 plus cameras bought from the UK.

Is it warm enough in your location for birds to begin building nests yet?
@gavinlipscombe97068 ай бұрын
Generally nest building begins at the end of March, although it has been getting earlier over recent years, there are no caterpillars available for the female to feed the chicks until late March. February is the common time for searching for suitable nest sites. It's promising that nest box 1 is being visited daily but it's no guarantee that the Blue tit will choose this site.

The coolest things in the world are the things that don't even know how cool they are. Look at these characters. They aren't trying to be funny at all, they're just going about their daily routine, but every time I watch this, it makes me laugh, and it cheers me up right away. My Grandma said that birds are God's cartoons. Can I add the hedge hog to that list?

I trap and dispose of as many Starlings as I possibly can. This is an invasive species destroying songbirds in the US. All you have to do is kill one and look at their enormous beaks to see how they are able to easily kill off other bird species. Please do more research !!! WRZ 2022-06-22
