Don’t know much about this. So are they only using the one tower now?
@vk3crg3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ten's tower in Ornata Road Olinda is the largest on the mountain. This is because Ch10 used to be Ch0. Being Ch0 and therefore on a lower frequency (50 MHz), meaning their antenna stack was larger than all other networks - the lower the frequency, the larger the antenna is to be resonant at the transmit frequency. The larger the antenna the greater the wind and weight load the tower has to be built for. DAB+ and all of Melbourne's main FM stations come off Ten's tower too as it can carry a large antenna load. Nine's old tower next to the Sky High Restaurant & lookout was literally falling down, Seven's was shorter and smaller, so it was decided all 3 commercial networks could transmit from the same site into a wideband antenna. This was better as the tower is taller (better coverage), designed for a larger weight (antenna stack etc), also easier for maintaining everything in one location. Also the Ten site has a huge backup power supply (shown in the video) that can keep all stations on the air during the time the generator is starting, so a power cut doesn't interrupt transmission. The other sites do not have that facility. Seven's old site at Eyre Road is the backup site for all 3 commercial stations.

G'day Craig ...Just discovered your You Tube channel ..This is fascinating . I'm a keen UHF CB user and run mostly Uniden products for line of sight and repeater use obviously on 5 watts .. I carry UHF in car and handheld in my bushwalking /fishing etc trips here in Tasmania . Always had thoughts to go to the really good stuff like what you do . Have has no real idea where to start but watching your vids is making me re think if it would be a great hobby and interest as I head toward retirement in a few years time . I do plan however to begin setting up a UHF home base station before that so I can talk with the occasional person maybe on 476-477 MHz from the comfort of home . So glad I stumbled on your really fun channel ..Alrerady learned a few things from your prvious vids ...Cheers Rod.

Hey Rod! So nice to hear from you. My videos are quite old now and I need to start making more! I suggest to check out the WIA website (Wireless Institute Of Australia) website and lookup your local Amateur Radio Club. You can get your Foundation License in a weekend and the other levels of license are not very hard to get at all. Since I've made those videos programs such as "SOTA" and VKFF have started (Google them) and they have reinvigorated the hobby, getting people out and about in nature and getting on air. Find your local radio club and go along, there is something for everyone in this hobby and I will started uploading more videos soon! All the best and let me know how you go! Craig VK3CRG Geelong.

Is it possible that someone can explain to me what I am looking at, at 08:45 and 08:58. Cheers
@speno803 жыл бұрын
At 08:45 is the top section of the tower showing the interface steelwork. The main body of the antenna in the next shot (08:50) sits down into the “cup” that you can see. At 08:58 is the co-pilot, he’s sat pretty much over the load carried by the helicopter.

i have a degree in video production and Live TV. This is exactly what I have been looking for. I just Purchased the 2018-2022 Technician Class study guide by Gordon West WB6NOA. It was recommended by another HAM Operator. Are there books on what you do? Can I broadcast live over the internet? I would like to learn more about this so I can apply my degree into it. Great video. Thank you.
