Back to bug you again. Awesome video! When I started watching you, I was struggling to even get on my board. I like how you explain the mechanics behind the ride. I see what I've been doing wrong after this video. On my wrap, I've been trying to complete the pivot on my back foot. (Like a skateboard) I lose all speed and the wave goes through me. If you have something on launching out of the back of the wave, catching air, I would love to see it. Thanks again

hey man. are you not skimboarding anymore? your videos are great and helpful. you should stick to it. maybe you also got some advise for me: i am 6´0, 210 lbs. i have a hard time staying afloat with my 54´´ hybrid board. is it possible, that it´s too small/not wide enough?

Hi there, glad you like the videos and yes i still skim. definitely not as frequent as before but im still out there a lot. skimboarding is is all about agility and speed. 210 is a lot of weight to carry on a skimboard. if you can get down to 175-180 things will get a bit easier. I am 6'1 175 for reference. but it's more likely you need more practice and confidence in your drop. there's a lot of technique when it comes to dropping the board and actually gaining speed, not losing it. also depending on the type of beach you skim, speed can be very hard to get. skimming a flat beach like in florida can be really hard to get speed because there's no help from the slope. places like Socal and mexico have a high slope and the amount of speed that provides alone is massive. When it comes to board size tbh i dont even know the dimensions of my own. I have a ML hornet currently, but i use to ride a Large because it's a bit more stable when getting comfortable with riding. with your size you should be riding a L or XL while learning and go down to M-ML when you get better and want more maneuverability.

@@BeachLookingGuy Thank you. And see... that´s why you are the best and should stick to making videos and sharing your knowledge with those who seek to learn. Doesn´t even have to be the full action skimming videos... could be just you talking, sharing your experiences, etc. That already helps a lot. Thanks again. I really appreciate it.

Wow, good job! Quick question, when you apply epoxy/glue to the floor after you are done with stem walls and edges, do you end up applying some on the edges(corners where stem wall meets the floor) of stem walls with the roller? Will it mess up stem walls? Glue/Epoxy will get on stem walls edges right while rolling the main floor?

Everything you said in this video is correct. I'm 48 and just picked up the sport five months. Anything I do, I want to be the best at. I spend at least 10-15 hours a week practicing. When I say practice, I mean work. Muscle memory is key, like you said. I've been riding goofie, FFF 2 step drop. I throw regular but ride goofie. I found your channel because I was looking fo a better way to get on my board. I hate the one step BFF. I have such a lite board and the wind stays at about 10-15mph during the winter, I have no confidence that my board will be where I drop it. BUT, I have to change something. I've suffered groin injuies, I'm limited to what waves I can get to. I have a tendency to rotate because I'm chasing the board and getting on at the wrong angle. I can't achieve what I want, with my current drop. About three weeks ago, I started practicing the monkey crawl in the living room without a board. (My wife makes fun of my imaginary board) That's when I seen your first video on how to monkey crawl. Nothing say's Oh Ship! like driving your face towards the ground while running. Anyway... I started actualy using monkey crawl about a week ago but only for part of my sessions. I found that I could drop on thicker water (when I got it right) and I could get almost as far with less speed because the transition is less stompy than lunging FFF. But I didn't want to let go of what's comfortable. Then I watched this video, and it's exactly what I needed to hear. Since I refuse to onestep BFF and what I'm doing is holding me back, I need to change. That means leaving the bad habits behind and going with a better drop. I don't have years to figure it out, I may be a fit 48 but I am in fact, 48. Thank you for telling me what I needed to hear. . @@BeachLookingGuy

Hey man great job! Turned out nice. Few questions: I do realize the video is sped up at time ls but in general you have to move pretty quick get the flakes down on wet paint right? Also when you’re scrapping for a smooth surface before the epoxy goes on, what if you scarp off too much or scratch the surface? Is it easy to patch the section? Or is that part hard to mess up?

If you want some tips and tricks i did this video with some voice over kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5y7g6dnochqjZY But with the chemical i use (polyurea) you have about 20 mins before it will get too dry. scraping takes a little technique so you dont mess up the floor. repairs are very quick and easy with fast a drying product.

ok. This video is really well made and straightforward to understand. When I finally went to a flat beach with the whitewater receding the way it's supposed to I tried to push my board along the wet sand. But as soon as I pushed down on the board the board sank into the soft sand and would not slide! Was it because I was using a cheap plywood skimboard that one can buy at any of the local resort novelty stores? Or should the video technique work with any board? Maybe I was push down too hard or maybe the bottom surface of those kind of boards simply will not slide? I was hoping I could learn some basics before shelling out big bucks on a professional board! (Oh, by the way, I probably WAY TO OLD to be even thinking of trying the basic skills! I am pretty flexible so getting into the posture position is not difficult. PLEASE ADVISE! THANKS!!)

Thanks for the kind words. The cheap wooden boards are mostly for little kids. Also you don’t really want to push down on the board, use your fingers as shock absorbers, lightly push down and forward. Hope that helps

Thanks for the PROMPT RESPONSE! Amazing! This cheap board was the longest available, but the point is well taken. I will try the "light touch" to see if that makes any difference. If it does, I'll let you know. I have been promoting this SAFE beginner technique to any kid I see trying even though he/she probably won't listen but I'll keep trying! THANKS AGAIN!@@BeachLookingGuy

I watch this video at least once a week because the advice is just so on-point. "Ankle biters!" Hahah I started calling them ankle biters as well, it's a perfect name for those annoying things. Thanks for taking so many intentional spills for the viewer to get the picture haha - it helps a lot. This video is exactly what you will experience in the first 1-2 years of skimming, once you get past the basic drop, etc.
