I bought the Luxman L507z and the volume control is very refined. There was another review critising the volume but I find the volume control via remote or on the ampllifier never jumps a number. It is perfect

I had some older chario reference 100’s, 5 1/4 mid, bottom firing port, inverted drivers. They are the only speaker I’ve owned that I wish I had never sold and I’ve been looking for another pair since. They threw a 3 dimensional soundstage like I’ve never heard before, fast, resolving, surprisingly punchy bass. I miss them very much. I think I paid £180 too

I bought some Chario speakers with stands back in 1996 or so. The first time I was hosting a little party at my house, every single geeky guy was crowding around them to figure out how these little speakers could produce such rich, precise sound. I believe they are Hiper 1s, the little bookshelf speakers.

I appreciate that you guys have a living to make but this is BS. What is important for streaming is that the data, the music file, that is presented to the DAC is identical to the music file on the streamer. It matters not one whit how it got there, just so long as it gets there when needed. The network protocols ensure that there is no data loss. If there were a data loss it would be very obvious even to my tin ears. Network cables come in a number of grades depending on the length and speed. Cat6 cables are more than adequate for domestic settings, and cheap. There's no need for "audio-quality" cable, whatever that means. The whole music file can be transferred in seconds - try pulling out the network cable from your DAC as the music plays.... BTW a network router will generally also perform the switch function.

Hi There, we would have to respectfully disagree with this. In theory, what you are saying may be the case in an absolutely ideal world, but unfortunately in reality it can be very different. The other simple reason for this is sonically it is better. When you sit back and listen with this or without it the difference is clear as day, and you don't need to have expert ears to hear it, even an inexperienced audiophile can hear the difference. You are correct that the data does have to be right, but how to gets there is very important. The easiest and most simple test is come in and have a listen. We always encourage people to listen for themselves. An example of this theory: Why do F1 teams use specialised coolant hoses rather than using a simple garden hose? Both move fluid, and what is important is the quality of water the radiator sends to the engine. In theory the radiator and water pump will maintain a perfect cooling protocol, flow and pressure, but in reality that is not the case due to external factors and the products surrounding the coolant hoses. The reason they use them is to stop external factors effecting the quality of the water and to maintain perfect pressure throughout the whole system, as the radiator and water pump will react differently when its under different loads, or dealing with differing weather conditions. The network is essentially the same. The transfer of data has to be protected, and it has to maintained and repaired if needed. Similarly using a clock in a streamer is the same idea. The internet will run slower when more people are on it, than when it is quiet. The network can't maintain the same quality regardless of protocol as it is overwhelmed. This is all before you begin researching RFI & EMI interferences from other devices. Best solution: Have a listen for yourself and you will genuinely hear a large difference.
@acutube50

@@kronoshifi I'd happily come in to listen and talk but you're not local. If the difference is "as clear as day" then:- 1) What characteristic has changed? Where are the measurements? We should be able to analyse the output of the DAC and see some difference. 2) What does that say about your base system?
@kronoshifi
@kronoshifi 13 күн бұрын
@@acutube50 The difference in sound is due to a reduction of noise. Effectively what this means is the music comes out more, so you will hear better vocals, more dynamics, more 3 dimensional depth, a bigger soundstage, more naturalism etc.... This is removing essentially contaminants in the ethernet, which comes from everything in your home. Your microwave, fridge, washing machine, TV, SKY boxes etc... all emit RFI & EMI and that therefore enters the ethernet. It is like having dirt in a hose pipe, the water will flow though it but you wouldn't want to drink it on the other end. Clear that hose pipe out and make it perfectly clean, perfect pure water exits on the other side. The same situation is with the ethernet, you have to filter out the bad, otherwise it damages the signal path, clear all that rubbish away and it flows better. Ethernet cables are essential too, because the better the quality of cable/conductor, the better the data transfer, hence why servers use high quality cable which are fully shielded, to stop interference such as mentioned above. If it didn't make a difference they wouldn't use them. You can pull measurements but of course sadly not everything can be explained in facts and figures, and you have to consider the human input. A car can read excellent on a computer but put a driver in it and he could hate it. Valve amplifiers don't necessarily read well, but are regarded as some of the finest amplifiers in the world. Prime example also of measurements, Titan Audio make mains cables, and Queen's University did a white paper which proved the difference they make, so they did prove the effect of cables in general and filtering. They blocked RFI & EMI, better conductors proved better signal transfer etc... and that was based against basic cables. The facts are there if you want them, but you have to consider the human input which cant be measured. Measurements will never always give you the real outcome. Some art or music if it was analysed by a robot would flag as poor or incorrect, but a human would see it and regard it as the finest piece of art in the world, or the best piece of music they have ever heard. Measuring enjoyment, personal preference etc.. is impossible. The base system may be very good, but like everything it comes down to price. Some streamers / DAC's etc... can handle all this interference and contamination but they cost £10,000's so this is a way for others to have the same solution without the larger outlay. The other factor is that this is an improvement, not a fix. You are improving the sound, which means the base sound may be very good, but it could be better. That doesn't mean the base sound was bad, just not as good as it could be.

@@kronoshifi Thank you for your response but some specifics would have been good (URLs, numbers,...). My system is, I think, decent, though not "high end", and my ears are certainly not high-end... I don't hear any noise on my system, not unless I turn it all the way up with my ears very close to the speakers, a point at which my ears would literally bleed if anything were playing. You are suggesting that reducing the level of something I can't hear will improve the sound I hear? I suspect that a bigger source of RFI etc is the electronics, the processor handling the network and passing the data to the DAC. You are right that it depends on other factors, the personal tastes of the listener, the quality of the speakers and the room. Sometimes I think peoples preferences are determined by how variations in the former compensates for the latter.
@kronoshifi
@kronoshifi 10 күн бұрын
@@acutube50 The difficulty with noise is much of the time this is not something you notice until you remove it. The noise you are mentioning is transformer hum, by blasting the gain you are getting transformer hum through your speakers. This is totally different to the noise from the ethernet and interference. Completely separate in all regards. Obviously we can back and forth all day about the pros and cons, but ultimately let your ears be the judge. There are industries built both in pro and HiFi terms which specialise in removing noise, and these could simply not exist if it doesn't do a job. People are not stupid and if the difference was not audible, people would not buy these products or use them. Best to have a listen before putting it down, you will be surprised by the difference you will hear!

I've had the ETA Forte' S with the 12" C-Note tone arm and Jo-8 Cartridge for just over two years now. I must say this has been one of the best turntables I've used. When I purchased the turntable, the tonearm connector for the C-Note arm is on the bottom. If that has since been moved to the back, that would be a great improvement. As getting to the bottom of such a heavy unit is "dicey" to say the least. I do, however, love that the tonearm uses the five pin connector. As I was able to acquire a fully balanced XLR interconnect cable to connect to my Balanced Audio Technology P-12 phono stage. The audio quality, stability, quietness, and build quality has been some of the best in the industry. Even after two years, the platter still spins on its ceramic bearing with absolutely no perceivable friction. All together, this turntable has been an absolute wonderful addition to my system.

Some feedback...camera angle could be better, why does large font across the screen have to be on all the time? music drowns out the dialogue which is indistinct and not as to the point as it could be. A learning process I suppose but these weekly product videos could and should be much better.
@kronoshifi
@kronoshifi Ай бұрын
Its a tough one, camera angle is tricky as we record in store, not in a dedicated studio so trying to get the full speaker in is difficult. We used to run the screen/font for about 10-30 secs then it faded away.... and we got comments complaining they wanted the information and wanted it to stay 🤣 the music is much louder on youtube than on our video editing software which is odd, but we will look into it.
