Heng Long makes it a bit confusing as they made a combined manual for the 7.0/7.1 boards. At least, the manual I use is. So it's difficult to determine what will and won't work on the 7.0. But basically if you want to use servo motors, you will need a 7.1 MFU as the 7.0 MFU doesn't have any ports to connect the 3-wire servo motors. I'm not sure about the gyro as I don't use one. From what I gather from reading online it would probably plug into the CN14 port. But the 7.0 doesn't have this port, only the 7.1 does. As for the barrel elevation and depression: on the 7.1 there are buttons that let you set the amount of throw for the elevation servo (only works with a servo, not with the regular elevation motor). If I remember correctly it has 3 ranges of elevation. Also, if you mount a servo for elevation you can kinda control range yourself with placement of the servo and the length of the servo arm. To me that was the most fiddly part, as there is no bracket or anything for installing the elevation servo. You really have to figure that out as you go. Hope that helps a bit.

Sometimes it gives more smoke than other times. To be honest I haven't figured out exactly how to achieve the optimal effect. But two things I did: 1.) keep the tube from the pump motor to the smoke container as short as possible, and more importantly keep the distance from the smoke container to the barrel as short as possible as well. It helps if you can mount everything in the turret so no long tubes have to go from the chassis all the way up 2.) Extend the barrel tube as far all you can into the barrel. More narrow tube gives a more powerful airflow. Check out my other video I did yesterday about this tank. In the end there is a picture of the inside of the turret.

Hey, yes this is the standard sound from the Heng Long TK 7.1 MFU. I also replaced the speaker with something that is a bit better quality (more bass). The soundeffects on the 7.X MFUs are better quality than the older MFU generations.

You're not the only one lol

It depends how handy you are, and how realistic you want to make the recoil. Heng Long makes an aluminium recoil unit to replace the bb-unit. It's not overly difficult if you're used to tinkering with mechanical and simple electronics. I did find it quite fiddly and frustrating to install. But that's also because I modified it for a longer recoil motion. The unit as supplied by Heng Long has a too short motion for a King Tiger. You'll also need to find a way to make the barrel elevation work, as the standard elevation motor doesn't interact with the smaller alu recoil unit. I ended up removing the whole elevation motor unit and rig a second servo motor on a 3D printed bracket to operate the barrel elevation. Also, if you do this you'll need an MFU that supports servo's. My King Tiger had a 6.0 unit which doesn't support servo's. I replaced it with a 7.1 unit. All in all it's a bit of a project. I've had this King Tiger for some years and am not up to speed with current Heng Long products. Might be that they already sell them with a servo recoil out of the box now?

Love how both of these tanks look but I can't decide which one I should go with first. Which one do you think is more beginner friendly?

​​@@CoolCraig31 I have no experience with the Abrams, but Heng Long tanks are basically all the same technology-wise. They are ready to run out of the box, so you can just choose the one that appeals most to you. A piece of advise to go with one that has a 7.0(of higher) MFU. The soundeffects are better quality than on the older MFU's. Also, if budget allows I'd go for one that has metal tracks and wheels. The tanks are mostly plastic, so the metal tracks add quite some weight, which make the tank more realistic to drive.

I will upload more video's when I start re-assembling the tank. But basically it's just the new aluminum Heng Long recoil unit, modified for a shorter recoil. The smoker is also the new one from Heng Long. Make sure you buy the one with the PCB included. It all wires into a 6.1 MFU.
