I agree with most of these points, like if you can’t handle stress or don’t like math or physics. However, as a mechanical engineer I haven’t done much coding at my job and other mech e’s and people in the company I work at probably don’t do any. So I’d say coding isn’t the best litmus test for any engineer. Maybe for some types. I agree with the statement that most engineers are desk jockeys. However, I do know there are ways to mitigate sitting for long periods of time and some engineering jobs might involve more walking around than others. If someone has a passion about a product or industry and how something is made or they like to know/figure out how things work, that is a hallmark of an engineer. (But it’s also not exclusive to engineers). Many colleges use MATLAB in their curriculum for coding, but I’ve heard that and I’m guessing it’s not used often in industry.

You skipped a huge reason to stay out. The economics. Engineering is not for people without a career contingency plan, because a scarcity of jobs compared to the number of graduates prevents most graduates from making engineering their livelihood. Another consideration is that engineers need better social skills than the average person. Most engineering career trajectories could be described, at least in part, as management or sales. Hating to manage people and sell things is as much of a setback in engineering as hating mathematics and physics. But someone might very well earn an engineering degree while hating management and sales. With the wrong degree, the outcome can be chronic unemployment.

Happy advanced birthday, Abir! You nailed it about getting wiser as your age adds up even though the society has a lot of bs to say. We all have our different stories after all. I wish you a more fulfilling life ahead You seem to be enjoying it :) So glad I knew about you ♡ I have watched your videos and you’re honestly very inspiring, especially in the sense that you’re a boss lady in general - whether being an engineer, independently supporting yourself, pursuing your dreams 🥹🫶🏻 I’ve watched your video about how the university doesn’t hurt your opportunities to being hired in companies, because portfolio and well, networking takes you to places more. I’m an incoming freshman and I passed in the big state university of my province for ComSci. however, my parents have this traditional notion that companies wont give a damn if i dont graduate from the big uni’s in my country. im in a dilemma of whether to grab this state university of my province as an opportunity (I can rather use the money to invest in other tools + there are free online courses now), or put a weight on my family's shoulder by applying to a private uni with hella pricey tuition fee for the sake of graduating in a 'well-known' university. hoping for additional insights from you! thanks ♡

I spent 30 years as an engineer. I am a female and engineering is still considered a man's field. Women are patronized and given the work the men want to do. All the exciting projects went to the men. The women getthe .ore menial jobs. If you do get a break and get something exciting, you will not get the credit. The only good part is the paycheck.

@AbiTheEngineerАй бұрын
Lander have thrusters that can ascend the moon surface and inject into NRHO (near rectilinear halo orbit). Then it docks with a transporter that will take it back to an earth orbit and slowly reenter earth (this is the super simplified version)

the growing older thing... Just before the pandemic I audited genomics classes out at the U.W. with an eye towards longevity. (Pathology 517 is an AMAZING class...) In any case, the short version of the story is that we are about to break the glass ceiling on life span and health span, and you are going to live - far - far - far longer than you probably think you will live today. (I actually went so far as to give a free public presentation about it at the oddfellows hall in ballard a few years back.)

Great advice. I've had to deeply consider pros and cons of next steps, take time with it. There was a journal called Job Search Notebook by Guru Notebooks I liked using at the time.
