Try Perilous forays, in combination with The Necrobloom and anything that provides mana on Landfall (like Lotus Cobra f.e), you can pretty much play all lands in your Deck in 1 turn. Furthermore there would be an insane amount of mana to dump into spells like Torment of Hailfire or Exsanguinate :x

"Breathe new life" is something people are overlooking. If someone plays once or twice a month, i can understand their want to play good decks and run powerful cards. Full stop thats a great point, play what you love. I am blessed to play 3 times a week, and i am tired of seeing it. I understand other people's joy, but the challenge and restrictions that come with budget cards has made me a better player. Overdoing synergy and finding ways out of problems with worse tools makes my game more enjoyable, personally. I like everything that you've put forward in the video, i hope to see you use this platform to release some of your budget deck techs!! Play your passion and good luck with the content!

I run Bjorna and Wernog, and give all of my opponents that extra card draw from clues without making the clues I get too punishing (just goading whatever is too threatening). The real goal isnt the clues, but having both my commanders die often, once they've died and been recast a few times I wait for or use a boardwipe. Then I follow up with Skull Storm with 4 or 5 additional copies. With no board, my opponents usually go from 80 or so life to death's door.

My Wilhelt the Rotcleaver was cool, but then I turned it in to "you either all kill me as quickly as you can or I win every game." I put a good amount of money into my precon over the last year and I love that it is now the biggest threat in my pod. Fastest win was turn 5. Adding and subtracting, little tweaks here and there. I think that's what I enjoy about the precons as a new player is you can learn it, break it down and rebuild it while learning about mana curve and how to play. Usually very affordable and you get everything you need in one box except sleeves and dice for counters. I love undead and zombies so I saw Wilhelt and was like "cool, he does zombie stuff." Now, as I approach my one year anniversary of starting to play magic, I wanted a new deck. I was thinking "maybe not get a deck that goes infinite"... So I just got Stella Lee, Wildcard. I'm sure she won't go infinite... Right? ....

In my Voja deck, the most expensive cards are Voja and all will be one (which i pulled) and Cryptolith Rite and everything else is promarily cheap elves. If you want a disgustingly powerful but cheap deck, make Voja Jaws of the Conclave your commander and populate with cheap elves and mana ramp. You can negate needing Cryptolith Rite by just having elves that tap for mana. Throw in something to give haste. The nice thing is it has a lot of room to improve. All Will Be One is very powerful but not necesary to be competitive, and you can replace it with the much cheaper Shalai and Hallar for a similar effect, which also gives you that elf synergy. While All Will Be One lets you target anything on the field, with Voja youre going to try to be smacking in the face as much as possible so Shalai and Hallar will do essentially the same thing. Bonus is you can use both if you decide you like the archtype in the future.

Youve come to commander night with the fun deck youve made with the cards in your collection at a table with others who've done the same, only to have a guy running a high powered deck full of proxies of cards noone at the table could possibly afford. Vast majority of tables are at least fine with proxying if you either already own a copy of the card or aren't proxying anything too crazy. For the most part the only tables fine with open proxying are CEDH ones.

Its just a matter of preference from table to table. One of the best things about commander is its casual nature, and part of that is different tables holding different preferences. Some tables wont like proxying for reasons like this, thats all Im saying.

Gotta say I disagree with cutting Three Visits. It gets you any Forest, not just basics, and into play untapped. It gets you Ravnica Shock Lands, and even if you are hyper budget, just getting a basic forest means it really only cost you 1 net mana this turn to be +1 in ramp for the rest of the game. Still very good.
@mtgmookie8 ай бұрын
Nature’s Lore is so much cheaper and does the same exact thing.
@PaulGaither8 ай бұрын
@mtgkookie - I didn't watch the price history. I got like 12 of them for different decks for my wife and I at like $3 each. I didn't know they rose to $8-$10 and are back "down" to $4-$5. That's because they are good. Now, concerning Nature's Lore, yeah, that's the point. You play both. Budget means different things to different people, but Three Visits is one of those staple cards that I made sure to snag and am glad I did both at the time and now seeing the price go up a bit. I have been playing magic since 2005 with the 9th edition starter and something I learned long ago and applied when I try to help other players: Do not overlook the value of "staples." I would still tell "you" to buy Three Visits and play both in your deck over buying some random hot new creature or synergy card. Three Visits will go into "every" green commander deck you play for the rest of your life, while that other $5 card won't. Most people don't like to "put in the work" for anything in life. Working out, studying, whatever. They want results, and Three Visits is a card that doesn't say you win the game, but it helps you play consistently. Hit your land drops, find your colors, and doees it efficiently. Just loke with sports and playing music and whatever, being consistent is the hidden key to success. Three Visits - and cards like it- wins you more games by keeping you on schedule than, say, Rampant growth which outs you down two mana and only a basic for the same mana cost.

Advice from a content creator myself, and an English teacher who wants to be helpful: If you still have the script and video editing file, please consider recording the audio again with a better microphone or improved settings. Practice your speech and record it in segments to get the best takes. You can do it :) It feels, many times, like you lack confidence in your words. These are your words. Believe in them and yourself. Be bold and assertive.

Scripting is fine for a video essay. I just think you’re reading too quickly and it’s causing some stumbling in your speech. Otherwise throughout this video, you’ve just explained how to budget decks but you’ve set an expectation that the standard budget isn’t the right way to budget, which works against the point you started with. Provide us a 500$ deck, with a mix of staple and value cards, and make 2 or 3 decks using budget options to prove your point. I’ll sub to see your progression as a creator

Breathe. You're reading a little quickly I feel, and you start to trip over your words. Your audio levels had your voice a little low as well, if you're able to adjust that. The script used was well written and helped convey your point very well, but your cadence was rushed. Don't be afraid to slow down or even make cuts in your recording to get a clean and impactful feel to add weight onto your key points. Knowing where to slow and enunciate or bring focus to a word/phrase will help to engage your viewer. Practice reading your script to yourself or to a family member or friend. Recording and listening back to your voice over will allow you to perform retakes of areas you find rushed or not as impactful as you wanted. Recording your voice over in smaller takes can make that easier to do as well. Finally, your video ended so abruptly I was startled. That rushed flow, into a cold stop was incredibly jarring, slow the pace down at the end and maybe mention your other videos! I really enjoyed your video and learned a great deal about how to restructure my current first build. I can see you doing even better in the near future as you learn editing tricks and become more comfortable with your speaking.

my first precon is Painbow (30USD) followed by Gavi's Timeless Wisdom (18 USD) minus that Fierce Guardianship card. The starter commander decks Chaos Incarnate and Grave Danger are both powerhouse and so much fun to play. less than 20 USD each. 28 USD for Sneak Attack precon. Wins everytime against any precons I have listed. I am not saying all precons are powerful / fun to play, but playing precons without adding/take away cards are ease and almost balance as long as other players are using their precons without upgrades

I can see how other people are reacting the way the are, but you raise a lot of great points. The thumbnail image of The MOM Knights deck not being worth it is pretty much clickbait. As you stated in the video, some are better than others and typically dominate. I agree that MTG has a lot of precon problems. One being that there are literally a lot of them. Too much these days. We used to have 4-5 rather focused decks per year with a ton of value packed in. I'm still using some of those commanders and a lot of the building blocks of those decks are still very useful today. I think you did a great job, so don't hear my criticism as not liking the video, but I wanted to offer a more constructive take to some criticisms I have seen so you have more of a direction to go with it. Besides the mana base, one of the big underlying issues that causes such variability between the strength of each deck out of the box is that each deck is designed not around a single theme or even commander, but that they often have different ideas for commanders that fit into the same color combination. For instance, both Doctor Who and Fallout villain based decks have very different key commanders in them. You could theoretically plug and play usually 3 or more commanders for each deck. Let's zero in on Ceasar and Mr House. The deck is built more around Ceasar, but Mr. House was iconic and needed to be shoved somewhere. Wizards thinks: "Why not throw him in this deck?" From the perspective that they have too many decks already, I agree. But clearly, they want to be in completely different decks. Let's look back at one of the best Mardu decks ever printed. Vampires under Edgar Markov! As it is, the other two featured commanders fit into that deck, since they're both vampires and support him. But they both could have decks built around them. The Wizards deck from the same release has Marisil the Pretender, who kinda stood out as completely his own thing and barely fit in. The other Wizards were much more effective in that deck. He was handcuffed and barely effective without being built around. Thus, the Wizards deck was the worst one from that year, and we got two very busted commanders from EdgUr

Interesting take. You make a lot of great points, its suck your using Tinker Time as your example being its one of my favorite precon of all time. However you are very much right. There are similar precon like this that share these problems that I'm going to go over, but Tinker Time is the weakest maybe of all precons ever printed. It doesn't help that the theme is one of the most niche theme ever (differently named artifact tokens). So its chance of getting support are second to none. That being said when it finally gets support, we get cards like {Transmutation Font} that tbh are mid. Next the precon itself didn't bring much card to support the theme as well, excluding the commander of course we have {Sandsteppe War Riders} that's it. Which in relating to another video made the commander an [Monolith Commander]. {Rashmi and Ragavan} don't count because they work of the number of any artifacts not referencing the theme of (differently named artifact tokens) so flavor fail. Second because of the them trying to make the niche theme work better they add a bunch of removal that did created a artifact token but were all sorcery speed. In which made the precon much weaker compared to good cards like Path, Swords or even a more synergistic card for their precon like {Murderous Rider} for Knights. Also funny enough because of the niche theme you're also waiting for other token artifacts themes to get more support like {Map/Junk/Incubate/Blood} to steal from them and add to upgrading your deck. In which all those themes were created for there own set, and will most likely not get any more new cards relating them in the future. [See how long ago Crimson Vow was release and we haven't gotten a new Blood Token card until {Transmutation Font}]. Hope to get feedback on what you or your community thinks about these points I bring up. BUT LETS BE HONEST I'VE DONE THE RESEARCH FOR THIS DECK AND WE ALL KNOW I'M COOKING. lol.
