I hate the new stadia of today , .they lack character and are so alike and dull,...the old wembley with its world famous iconic wembley towers were the heart of the ground and set them.apart from other stadiums,...the new wembley yes as all the modern features and is bigger and is canopied by a huge arc,....but he lacks the atmosphere, and charm of the much missed old wembley....as for the towers being added to the new wembley now,.. im not sure , but incorporating them in some way should have been a major part of the planning when the new wembley was being designed....

John Cain, the ALP Premier of Victoria and member of the MCC, owners of the MCG made sure it never happened. They blocked the public transport, like they did with Tullamarine to protect the cabbies. Victoria is unfortunately run like an oligarchy.
@ChristianWiley-cf8gx3 ай бұрын
The most colossal aspect about this venue is the carpark. Any attendance records would have been accompanied by record time trying to escape the carpark. A key failing for this venue was the lack of public transport connections.

Commentators Alan Green and Peter Brackley BBC Radio 2
@johnhastings7841Ай бұрын
George Hamilton & Peter Brackley with Frank McLintock, who refers to George at 6:30. Peter Jones commentated on the first match but missed the replay as he was on Radio 4, commentating on the Pope arriving in Britain that day.
@noelmaher6218Ай бұрын
@@johnhastings7841 I presumed it was a much younger Alan Green but thanks for crediting George Hamilton. Funny thing is I live in Ireland and George Hamilton joined RTE and became the main football commentator on RTE, covering all the Republic of Ireland games for about 35 years. Alan Green certainly by the late 80s early 90s was an 'established ' commentator with the old BBC Radio 2 and a mainstay on 5 Live afterwards. Growing up in the late 70s and early 80s I used to listen to BBC Radio 2 every Saturday for the football coverage. So many lost voices like Bill Bothwell, Peter Lorenzo, Laurie Canning, George Bayley never mind Peter Bracknell but if you scout around the Net there's a good selection of old BBC radio match coverage available. I think someone should create a website to pay tribute to these old BBC Radio football commentators because, back in the day, they had a huge radio audience.They deserve to be remembered properly.

The Population was ONLY 2.2 million when this was the plan now it is over 6 million and the biggest stadium in Victoria is ONLY 100,000. I think its time for a bigger stadium in VIC.

It certainly would have been the largest stadium in the world with timber bench seating. Bring the binoculars if you are in the back row, but at least you would be among the small percentage of spectators under cover.

@Tomdel19655 ай бұрын
Appreciate that, thanks. I agree about the lack of roofing, but this was their design for whatever reason. Being in the rainbelt it does warrant more cover for the spectators. Still, it had more roofing than most 'outdoor' NFL stadiums where heavy snowfall is common.

This wouldn't work as they would actually be pitchside if you look at the location of them and compare it to the new stadium. Also the old pedway ramp would have reached halfway into the new stadium ,shame about the railway track at the back as the new stadium could have been set further back and kept the old facade of the frontage, full pedway and the towers . Or maybe even build over the railway line? It's a problem that Old trafford and Stamford bridge face.
@Tomdel1965 Жыл бұрын
If you read the pre-amble - "...dismantled, rebuilt and incorporated into the stadiums new design..."
@CheesestringXX Жыл бұрын
@@Tomdel1965 Yeah,would be a hell of a job though. 0:47 would have been best if they built it further back,not sure how feasible that is with the railway line and what not. Or I wonder if it was possible to keep the whole outer structure and just demolish within and dig down abit to get rid of the massive gaps behind the goals and add more seats and totally refurb it inside.
