I have always loved this movie and saw it in the theater I think 2 or 3 times, back in 1980, as a teenager! One thing I had not known which just puts an amazing cherry on top (and makes me admire Jane Seymour even more…) Is that element of how she was basically responsible for getting the great John Barry to score the film!! Astounding!!

heard of this film, never had an interest in it, but since his passing, reconsidered watching it. Finally did recently, I can see why its a cult classic.

I found the VHS tape of SiT in our living room one evening on my mom's chair. I think one of her friends lent it to her. I was a teenager at the time with very narrow taste in movies, e.g. sci-fi, action, fantasy. I'm not sure why I decided to watch it, maybe because our family visited Mackinac Island when I was a boy and I had found memories. Anyway I remember being moved by the story, and still think about it from time to time. I've still never been to the Grand Hotel, but my parents stayed in the Governor's suite years back. Now that I know about the Somewhere in Time Weekend, I have an excuse to visit it.

Speaking as an objective movie lover, I think Reeve nailed it with his opinion. Like the first Superman film, he was simply lucky (and talented, and spiritually gifted) to have made a second film (SiT) of such long lasting relevance to our ability to 'hold on' to what is worth holding on to. You simply 'hold on' vs 'let go' of good art. In context, I can't let go of Godfather 1 & 2, Sergio Leone ($ trilogy, Once Upon a Time in America), Rocky 1, Rambo 1, Scarface, Superman, Somewhere in Time.......vs........the incoherent complexities of Superman 2-4 (all shallow entertaining films with their troubles, while Reeve's saves the franchise) etc. IMO, only Pacino, Freeman, and DeNiro have waltzed through such territory. Reeve's is special! But, he was so specific in his criteria!

I just love time travel films. The Time Traveller's Wife is one, but this one, Somewhere in Time, is my all time number 1, favourite. ♥When I saw the penny in his hand I remember gasping oh nooooo and crying! ... I was 17 when it came out and fell in love with the music, including the Rachmaninov piece. ♥There should be more romantic time travel films around.

I saw this movie for the first time when I was 14. I had seen Christopher Reeve in "Superman", not impressed (not my kind of movie). I saw him in "Somewhere In Time", and I developed a crush on him, even Jane for that matter because of her beauty and elegance. Now 44 years later, it is still my favorite movie, and I still love it. I'm sorry for what happened to Mr. Reeve and his subsequent passing, but I still love this movie.
