John Randolph Bray lived to be 99 years old. That's great to find out.

This film is a good example of European westerns being behind American ones, & wasn't until the Spaghetti westerns of 1960's until they did any decent ones that I remember.

I am a bit confused here. If as you say this is not the film Les Tulipes (The Tulips) why have a link to IMDB for that film. Makes no sense.
@FilmsbytheYear5 күн бұрын
You are correct. I still haven't identified this film so the link has been removed.

What a fantastic find. Produced by PATHÉ in Sweden (Stockholm) in 1912. A few years earlier PATHÉ almost had a monopoly on producing European film, but things had recently changed. This film represents the shift. The modest Swedish film industry that began in a small town had now moved to Stockholm. (Also, a historical note - the first film ever made in Sweden was filmed outside the castle, and you see the place it took place in the background 12/13 minutes into this film). And, they had large ambitions - and they needed new directors. Three of them were Stiller, Sjöström and Von Klercker - and all three would become the most successful Swedish directors during the golden era (1915-1925. And, all three are actors in this french production. One year later, in 1913 Sjöström directed "Ingeborg Holm", and PATHÉ had lost it's relevance and died away. One note about Lifvets vår, directed by a Frenchman Garbagni). The story (The only film script written by a Swede - Hedman, who became a clerk at Sjöström, Stiller and Von Klerckers new work: Svensk Bio/Svensk Film (SF). surprisingly progressive and social realistic being made in 1912. Depicting a class system, poverty, illness and death. Children's vulnerability, and the reality for the "common" women. All this one year before Sjöströms own "Ingeborg Holm" (1913) which is regarded as (and is) groundbreaking in its sociorealism. One could think Sjöström got the inspiration for "Holm" from Lifvets vår - but that is not the case. Instead, "Ingeborg Holm" was a play - written by a man who have worked with poverty and told a reality. Sjöström had appeared in the play several times on stage earlier.

This is before ballet shoes had the stiffened shank going up from toe to heel; allowing dancers to linger on their toes for more than just a second or two. I think it was Anna Pavlova who pioneered that innovation, but I could be wrong.
@sabrinatscha255412 күн бұрын
It’s incredible how ballet has evolved. Imagine what the critics of this era would have thought of Sylvie Guillem or Marianela Nunez… would they have been absolutely blown away, or possibly even offended?
