This reminds me so much of the Grateful Dead, the unhurried flowering of the music going back and forth through the air, then the familiar air of the song stealing back and teasing us...this fella has certainly heard some of the Dead's recorded live performanes.

I’m from Toronto and used to hang out around the Yorkville Village area where Gordon and many others played in the 60’s. I’ve caught Gordon a few times at Massey Hall and he was always fantastic. A true Canadian Legend and he’s missed dearly.

Too stretched out. Too many grateful dead licks droning on and on. With this song Billy you need to get in and get out. It's about honoring the men who died, not Weir and Garcia. So slow it down a bit, channel your best American Folk sound and don't do acid before the show. ; )

We’ve sailed 10s of 1000s of miles all over the world. But the Great Lakes are always ‘home’. Most experienced ocean sailors have zero idea of the power of the lakes. Thanks for posting.
@howardelzey27604 күн бұрын
I don't know about that. I spent 10 days in the Roaring 40's between Madagascar and Australia in 1992 where we sailed through seas ranging from 40 feet up to 100 feet tall at times. Winds at a steady 80 mph plus. Nearest land was 3,000 miles away. I was on a US Navy ship and it was so rough we couldn't cook and were mostly mandated to stay in our bunks unless we were on watch due to the harshness. I also transited around Cape Horn in July of 91' (winter time down there) and it was brutal and downright terrifying. Hundred foot rollers and 75 mph winds for several days. The Great lakes have never come close to the storms and damage open water in the southern latitudes can produce.
@Pelican50774 күн бұрын
@ Yeah no disagreement on that. My main point is that Huron and Superior particularly can produce some spectacular and brutal storms. Most sailors who coastal cruise in the US, or maybe run the island chains, will never experience anything near as bad as the GL can deliver. But they can’t wait to tell you how ‘bad’ ocean sailing can be when you get 40 knots and 10ft swells. I just show them my video of 50 knots and 18-20 footers with no wave train and square tops. Thankfully I only have one video!

Fun Fact - Gordon was very moved at the events , attended the annual services and became close to the family's , not forgetting names. When recording this , Gordon ordered blackout of the studio with only a single candle lit representing what it must be like for those lost . After a time just sitting there in dark silence he played this emotional tribute .
