I was a fan also, until I began to find out about the truth behind the deception. Only problem is that Miss "Philippines" is more Australian than anything else. A NATIVE Australian to be more exact....born, raised, educated ALL her life in Australia. Her father is Scottish, so is her name and last name. He grew up in Australia as a child and became a successful engineer, millionaire actually. Brought a Filipina from an impoverished background over to Australia, married her and had a daughter...who thanks to him grew up well off and then at age of 18 set off to Philippines to do modeling where she did well. Only after two years of being in the Philippines, she was pushed through pageant system to represent the Philippines in Miss World 2016, where she came in 5th place and where Miss Puerto Rico took the crown. So the pageant people in Philippines spent two years getting her "ready" for Miss Universe. They also ensured to have two Filipinas on the judge panel, out of 7 judges, and created a marketing campaign full of all kinds of distortions regarding her background. By the time she became the candidate for Philippines for Miss Universe, she had an estimated net worth of over $2 million dollars. They even got her to complete an online course from a Berklee College of Music in Massachusetts, so that she could get a certificate...and now she is regularly heard stating that she has a DEGREE from "Berkley" in Music Theory. She makes no effort at distinguishing that it is NOT from UC Berkeley, the world-class academic institution we all have heard of. Just part of the wizardry that landed her where she is. But hey it worked. She claims to be Filipina-Australian, completely ignoring the fact that she owes most of the success in her life to the hard work and home life provided by her FATHER, who is SCOTTISH. She has NO room in her hyphenated identity to honor her father's heritage, and she claims her hometown as a village in PH where she has never lived. It's where her mother was born. She's made claims that she at one time was the "breadwinner" of her family, something that is entirely untrue. She might have been a breadwinner when she arrived in Philippines for whoever she was staying with, but her father is a millionaire and doesn't need her to provide anything for him or his wife. She fails to also point out that the Little Miss Philippines Pageant she won as a child was held and put together in AUSTRALIA by the community in Queensland for the large Filipino community that has fled the Philippines to aspire to a better life. It was not in the Philippines for and by Filipinos. The 2018 MU crown should have gone to any of the other 4 girls in the top 5 who were legitimate representatives of their respective countries. South Africa, Venezuela, Vietnam, or Puerto Rico. I would have fully supported Catriona Gray had she been representing her true country, Australia...and not as some outsourced pageant girl brought in to play a Filipina. Thats not what pageants were meant to accomplish.
