Thank you for making this video. Theres few info on youtube about software engineering in the automotive industry and I appreciate an informative video like yours. If i could make a suggestion, you may be interested in making a video about what software is used in the automotive industry, an overview of how network work in a modern car or how to get a job as a software engineer in the automotive industry. Thanks again, I am sure this video will stay in memory.

The shift to software-defined vehicles is astonishing. Nexteer's emphasis on software solutions for advanced safety is essential, especially with the significant concern over cybersecurity. It's reassuring to see companies like Nexteer taking this seriously. This is the future of driving.

The shift to electric vehicles is a monumental challenge, but Nexteer is clearly up to the task. Their focus on addressing specific issues like heavier steering and packaging is impressive. Steer-by-wire is a game-changer, and their commitment to acoustic and vibration performance shows a deep understanding of the EV driving experience.

Can the car be steered if it loses power?
@billcichoke253411 ай бұрын
No. Not unless a mechanical backup was included.
@tety57755 ай бұрын
Yes it can, it has redundancy built in. At least one extra steering motor and a backup battery. And if the backup battery fails the car should tell you to go to the next service station. Because it should be monitored.
@tety57755 ай бұрын
@@billcichoke2534you clearly have no clue. There is a backup battery solely for the steering system.

@@tety5775 And yet these vehicles are throwing error codes with the steering no longer functioning. So much for your so-called backups...

Crazy how 10 year old technology is being sold as new :D some manufacturers showed this over a decade ago and implemented it 10 years ago

And also stopped using it because it DIDN'T increase safety; quite the opposite.

@@billcichoke2534stop talking bullshit. Fly by wire is already common and hasn't reduced safety. Steer by wire is basically the same.
@billcichoke25345 ай бұрын
@@tety5775 Fly by wire has hydraulic backups. Steer by wire has NO backups, just the sensors on the steering wheel and the motor on the tie rod. As we've been seeing with ALL these vehicles so equipped, errors between steering wheel and steering motor happen, and there IS NO STEERING. That sounds kind of LESS safe.
@tety57755 ай бұрын
@@billcichoke2534 That's not true. The Airbus 320 was the first who had only a partial mechanical backup in 1987. New planes don't have any mechanical backup. They have a lot of redundancy. A380 has a triple redundancy.
@tety57755 ай бұрын
@@billcichoke2534 This is a text I found from someone who looked into it: "The Airbus fly-by-wire flight control system has quadruplex redundancy i.e., it has five flight control computers where only one computer is needed to fly the aircraft. Consequently, an Airbus aircraft can afford to lose four of these computers and still be flyable. Of the five flight control computers, three are primary computers and two are secondary (backup) computers. The primary and the secondary flight control computers use different processors, are designed and supplied by different vendors, feature different chips from different manufacturers, and have different software systems developed by different teams using different programming languages. All this redundancy reduces the probability of common hardware- and software-errors that could lead to system failure."

The doors lock and pressing the unlock button does nothing. You hear a voice come over the speakers as your steering wheel goes into autonomous mode with no user input reaching the wheels. "Yes hello, we hacked your car now you are off to Brazil." The last thing you see is the water as your car plummets off a bridge.

Well sim racing wheel is supposed to feel like a normal car so I guess it cancels out?
@opmike3432 жыл бұрын
@@SkeleCrafteronYT Well, depends. Most racing sims give additional feedback through the wheel that you wouldn't feel in a real car to make up for the fact that there's no "seat of pants" feedback in your computer chair. So much performing driving is done through feedback you feel in your body, in a sim, it's primarily gotta be handled by the wheel. Most actual cars feel pretty numb compared to a sim wheel, but they are giving you feedback in dozens of other areas throughout your body.

What happens if your car battery dies...? would just have no controll over the steering of the vehicle, why not just have a spring loaded clutch or a system which can disengage the wheel from the steering rack. I do understand that would mean that when you regain manual controll the steering wheel wont be alligned with the position of the wheels but you could place a motor and sensor to allign the wheel before it gives you controll. This way if anything happened worse case the clutch would drop and you would just steer with the steering wheel out of allignment. I do believe in progression of the motor industry however we have seen in the past that technology can fail but unlike a stuck accelorator/cruise controll which can be resolved by killing ignition of the spark plugs this could leave you heading into oncoming traaffic with no quick simple resolution.

Certain things need to remain mechanic... I've seen accidents because people doesn't have a mechanical handbrake anymore in some cars, the car burst in flames or loses power, loses hydraulic pressure on the brakes and there's no way to stop the car anymore. There's no need to search a solution where there's no problem.
