Yeah, has to be NASA, that's like the only one where you'd go "a that place engineer", a NASA engineer. At least it used to be, might have changed now, and it might be different for people really into engineering. But for any average person of my age, NASA engineer is the only engineering job that stands as a class of it's own.

As someone who didnt attend the subathon, what do you mean she treated it like a job? What did she do during the subathon?

@@mr.parker8014 Various things. Like once I was watching she was solving coding puzzles on leetcode to brush up on her coding skills. And also she was sort of treating applying for jobs itself like a job and doing it as part of the subathon, or hireathon as we were calling it, and she did it for like a month straight. Unfortunately this means the end of the subathon because the condition was until the timer runs out or she gets a job. Glad she got the job though.

Smaller companies, ones in which the owner(s) might feasibly be at least acquainted with all the employees, often do. It's when you get beyond that, that you start to lose the human factor and people become numbers, simply _resources_ for the company.

She wants to finish running out the timer for the hireathon, and she will keep streaming on the side (probably a lot less than during the hireathon obviously). She may take a small break but she's very excited to keep going with her streaming projects, including the neuro dog. So don't worry, she's not going anywhere!

I got laid off at a huge corp and couldn't find a job for a year. I went back to school and got my degree + a masters. Way happier now. As Gandalf said, all we get to decide is what to do with the times that are given to us 😂.

in the US its almost encouraged to apply for several jobs at a time, hoping to get multiple, and pick the one you like the most. Lots of more white collar jobs therefore don't assume you'll work for them just because you were accepted. They start by offering up a chance to apply, and after you application is reviewed and accepted, you do the tests and interviews, and if you pass all that, they offer you a chance to work for them, and since people often apply for several jobs at once, these "offers so work" are regularly not accepted

She had 6 interviews, I'd say that's plenty

she has been doing interviews for this specific job for pretty much the entire month of the hireathon lol she kept going through to the next round again and again, and finally after the sixth interview (which iirc was more of a routine thing to meet the team) she was waiting for the reply.
