If you still run your account, I am thinking of buying a 2014 cbr300r with 36,000kms, what do you think?

I own one of these and it's VERY easy to break any speedlimit big time. As a matter of facts, it's quite hard to keep under the speedlimits since it has no torque and it's just unhappy at lower revs. It starts to pull between 8k-12k, it's a pocket rocket above 12k. None of my friends with bigger bikes can keep up with this thing

Man, this looks so incredibly similar to the VT750. I'd love to try one of these to see how they compare. I love riding my VT750, but it is about that total cruiser mindset. You just rip it sometimes and other times, you just sit back and relax. Shadows carry their weight VERY low compared to other bikes, so they don't feel like they are going to tip.

Thing is you keep buying bigger, faster, more expensive bikes (well I did) but for what? I'm picking up one of these tomorrow, I shall try to enjoy it for what it is & what it can do rather than focussing on what it isn't and what it can't do...

Great review, thanks mate. And local! Healesville here. I'm looking at one of these, and its great to hear cruise around when its not screaming the whole time. Although I love that its capable if necessary, or if you want to have some fun with it. I'm looking at one of these next week as a first bike. I'm hoping the power of these will keep me amused years beyond the 3 years restrictions!

That seat is a strange one, if you check out the 50cc version of this bike, the seat is different, it seems to be higher and more level than the one you're riding here. Definitely the little legs under the seat are longer. I wonder why they changed that. The deal breaker is that the frame is the fuel tank. Get rust in that zone and it's bu**ered.

Bought one of these only a few weeks ago as my first bike and I gotta say, I absolutely love it! 2012, 15,000km, red/white/black, gold wheels, looks as clean as the day it left factory! This is one bike I’ll never part with. I’ll just have to expand the collection!

Brillant video. Love the commentary. Just bought this bike for my other half and it has the same V&H pipes (yeah after market) I read the comments and I agree, new pads on the brakes make all the difference. Awesome first bike!

I've been riding for 3 years now and mine is an MC19 (previous version to this). I'm 5ft 2 and she is a perfect fit for me. We have two of these bikes (one we are setting up for track) and my son learnt on one too. My hubby has many bikes but when he jumps on mine he always has a blast and a smile on his face. I wouldn't trade her for nothing! Everything you said in your review is spot on. Except the comfort. I've ridden 5 hours on mine in a day and had no issues and I'm 54. And also the thing with changing directions and the handlebars being so tight in, well I use my body to change directions, you sway your hips and she's where you need her to be.

You are right, they are probably a little underpowered. I recently got a black CBR250R. The main appeal was fuel injection (vs all the carby bikes on the market), the barky pipe it came fitted with and the commuter pack/rack it comes with. It’s still a fun bike to ride, parts and service components are easy to find, it brakes well and the suspension is at least modern. It’s pretty frugal fuel wise as well, even when ridden fairly hard. I find it really easy to work on and there are plenty of guides (they are super popular in Asia/India) Honestly I am considering an upgrade to a cbr500r or Cb500f in the future but only for the passing prowess on the motorway. (Realistically the 250 tops out at 130-135) but that’s my only real complaint. I think the Honda build quality as well as the modern engine characteristics makes it a great commuter/ weekend warrior bike. I actually fell in love with the VFR front headlight. I thought it looks cool.

A motor trimmer fixed the seat discomfort problem on mine . The engine is louder than it's relatives due to the gear driven cams which do need to be replaced eventually but this is EXPENSIVE ! Electrical problems are common in them due to their age . I have heard of engine failures in ones that are raced a lot or frequently redlined . The engines aren't quite bullett proof & they run hot in peak hour traffic jams on hot days due to an inadequate radiator fan . A mate blew his up due to overheating in this situation . The microsquirt kit & ECU & injectors can cure the poor low to medium rpm performance problem . They also have incurable torque flat spots at 5,000 & 8,000 RPM due to a bad ignitor map as seen on the dyno .Yamaha FZR250 doesn't have this problem as I have compared both . The Yamaha engine has a rawer sound which I prefer . The gear driven cams have a bad high pitch harmonic unlike chain driven cams which causes me shoulder pain after a time .This is a big mistake on Honda's part . I prefer the Yamaha or the Suzuki 913 for this reason . They are slightly easier to work on as well than the Honda MC22 .

8:03 Yes, whenever I have a bike with a Kick starter I tend to use it. Also to answer your question, I like the idea of an unusual, light and small capacity bike. What I wouldn't like about it is its bad ergonomics and questionable reliability. Let's just say I would trust the thing more if it was made by Honda.

I ride a suzuki inazuma 250 with one exhaust on each side and weighing atleast 12 kilos each, the bike feels so bloody heavy!. This bike is freakin heavy. And every time I jumped on an 1100 triumph Bonneville because I like to sit on this things at the bike shop lol, it felt like a feather lol. So I can't wait to get my own cruiser :D.
