Tom doing what he'll always be remembered for: singing a song he knew would get folk singing along. His voice could cut through the racket of a noisy pub. Miss him loads. And so many other faces there also no longer with us. Don't know why this popped up today. But thanks for posting it #Jean Gair.

I was lucky to catch him at The Star Folk Club, in Glasgow, about thirty years ago - best 12 quid I've ever spent, it was a great night, with him and his offsider. 👍👍

This song reminds me of my Granny, Nancy Macdonald who bid her beau goodbye in Edinburgh in 1914 when he went off to war with the Royal Scots... Captain Sandy Watson came home in 1918 to marry Nancy...

Another thought - Eric's tribute songs. One of may favourite over the years is Eric's "Safe in the Harbour" written as a tribute to our Stan Rogers who died far too young yet still produced and amazing and profound body of music.

This song caused me to discover Slim Dusty. Thanks Eric (and John)

OMG I ca relate to this as I left my mum and dad & inlaws and could barely breathe for the sadness I felt, as I also took their grandaughter with me...................I cried all the way here, and have adopted this country as my own but still regret depriving my daughter of her family....................

@MultiGeraghty yes, Eric did regular concert tours of England and Scotland up until a year or so back, when he announced that he was getting a bit too old to be travelling all that way. He now only tours within Australia and New Zealand.

@sherp2u1 It IS a romantic love song. He loved his mother so much that he wrote this lovely ballad about leaving home (Scotland) probably never to return! (By the way, Did he ever return?)
