The battery door is definitely not "professional". I wonder what kind of screen they have, because my H5 is so delicate that a microfiber clat scratches it every time I use it.

Are there any R models that allow to set also the RAW image pixel count to M/S? Canon had that in DSLR and it is super useful when you don't need that big files. Don't know why Sony doesn't add this to their cameras.

Great and extremely thorough video 🙏 My a6300 is dummy battery powered by a usb plug into an outlet in the wall that has 4 spots to plug in usb. So does that mean I’m only giving it ~5v and it’s underpowered? Seems to work great?

Thisis really cool. Sadly, all of the power banks now seem to come in square models ... which may still technically work but won't look as neat or sit as flush. Why the hell they are all square/rectangular now is beyond me . . . cylinders are much more aesthetically pleasing!

Looks like a great video to getting into the dirty details! For those who are big fans of Sony products, it is no surprise that the menus are deep and the learning curve can be steep... But for some, that's actually a good thing, as it affords a degree of control that other products don't provide... And after all, some of the features only need be visited once to get things set up the way you want! I had an A7rii and was not happy with it in some regards, but this version appears to be an upgrade, and actually appears to make for a camera worth hanging on to! Time will tell... 😃

OMG!! I have tried practically every option you've included here and have failed to understand why it was "appear" to be charging my camera (A7IV) while in use, but even with a double battery pack GRIP, it would fail to keep me "juiced-up" for long periods of time. I only shoot stills and not video, but need a portable (wear on my hip) type option to power up my A7IV for many hours (weddings, etc.) shoots at a time. I think you may have given me the answer I need. I guess it would need to be a dummy battery then one of the batteries with the blue level indicator lights. I just get so concerned about messing up my camera with a dummy battery. I have read so many horror stories, but replacing the individual batteries can be a hassle as well. REALLY uses up battery power. I guess, gulp, I will try a dummy battery (hopefully one is "approved" by Sony) get gear insurance and hope for the best. I SO appreciate all of your hard work and helps me validate my hard work trying to get the results I need.

Not really sure. Undervolting typically isnt destructive, but reversing polarity is still very bad even when undervolted.

For heaven sake, why don't they just let you plug in a friggin power cord!!! Batteries are nice for mobility but there are situations where you want to record for long periods of time.

So is v30 good enough for 4k and slo mo on a6400 or not?
@Photonarmy Жыл бұрын
Yes. All a6400 modes are covered by v30. Note that my advice on cards has changed over time due to changes in the manufacturing landscape. Today I would suggest the Sony or ProGrade cards. The E series Sony cards are a good value option with stable performance.

Finally, someone mentioned it. The reason, which isn't a great reason, but at the time it made sense... was to maintain the maximum dynamic range, because pumping it to KZbin max has a tendency to reduce it. At one point, I was going to pull it and repost it, but then I was curious if anyone would comment on it.... and here you are, fulfilling destiny.

What an excellent video! I say again--excellent. You have technical understanding coupled with a dry and clever sense of humor, and this made my learning process easy and painless. Thank you. Like others among your viewership, I am a Canon user going back to the 5D classic (which I still own and use). I won't say that I'm transitioning to Sony as I have already owned the Sony A7RII. But your video has made things clear to me, clearer than ever before.

It should be noted they older aXXXX series cameras plugging in the usb to power won’t work at all. The micro usb port thinks any cable connected is for data. Only USB-C will work to run off the battery.

BUT WHAT IF YOU WANT TO CONECT ALSO A REMOTE TO THE USB-PORT ????? IT IS SO BAD THAT YOU CAN'T CONNECT POWER AND A REMOTE TO THE SONY ALPHAS ? I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW UNPRO SONY IS...
@Photonarmy2 жыл бұрын
For older Sony's like those mentioned in this video, there are still ways to power the camera and use a wired remote if you like, using a usb-to-dummy battery. Most newer Sonys have both a usbc port for power and data, as well as the old micro USB multiport for remotes. Those will do what you want them to do out of the box. However, most Pro photographers find that the battery life of the newer Sony cameras is more than sufficient for normal pro work. Videographers tend to be the only pros who need external power on newer Sony bodies.

Confused; I watched your other video. You suggest 4k video will draw 8A roughly, but the power bank is just 1amp. I just bought a power bank 28600mAh 5v 1 amp and 2.1 USB. How is this going to power my 4k Sony if it needs 8 amps? AND...do you have to have a battery in the compartment when using a power bank?
