I did 3 years on her. They decommissioned it not long after I left. I'm surprised it took that long for it to sink. The hull was extremely thin. On one of my sound and security watches I dropped a sounding rod into shaft alley bilge to check for any rising water and it dropped straight through the hull. We had to pump shaft alley on a regular basis after that and it took the welder a long time to find enough metal thick enough to weld too to patch it. Good times.

(Your video is 8 years old at this point, so I hope you see this…) You did well, but I’d like to share some thoughts on aspects to consider for refining your method… There are two general camps on having your spool and DSMB maintained separate or connected through your dive. For recreational dives, there is little need to keep them separate and would really be driven by how you stow them through the dive. (I use tech shorts and keep them in a pocket, but you can also clip or bungee them off to your BC as well, of course.) Keeping them attached to each other removes a step in the deployment process, plus, you would not have to capture the partially-inflated DSMB on your wrist to assemble it. “Murphy’s Law” can also come into play here in that the is a risk you could lose control of the partially-inflated DSMB and if it gets away from you, it will get to the surface with no line attached….. 😢 You might want to consider looking up just before deployment to ensure there’s no divers or boat above you that can get entangled in the line. The technique you employ for reeling up the line could be a bit better. There is a good technique using your thumb and a double-ender to control and maintain tension on the line (say with your the hand that has your wrist-mounted computer so you can monitor ascent) as you wind the untensioned section that you have between the boltsnap and the spool (with your other hand by simply rotating your wrist). It sounds more complicated than it is. ISE (Inner Space Explorers) has a couple of good videos on that. Hope this helps!
