I perform as several historical figures for Chautauqua festivals around the country. One of the my favorites is Walter Cronkite. He was a young reporter for the Associated Press in East Texas and was the first national reporter on the scene of the school explosion. In his autobiography his description of the families digging through the debris with their bare hands is heart breaking. It was his first major, national report.

Enjoyed the content even though I have never been in Tyler. Many of the stories reminded me of similar events in my home town that I haven't thought of in years. Thanks.

My momma lives in Troup Texas and my cousins from my aunt Mary💓 Momma lives right up the road from the church and parishioners home that the preacher murdered his wife in the early 2000s. There's a few shows about that crime on here too 😅

Its texas history and folks that dont preserve it usually end up regretting it.. Yep sweep history under the rug and say it didn't happen.. Outta site outta mind.. But some wooden buildings hurt their community pride and their angelic thinkings? Shoot it was a staple for 130 years and then you have some clown from houston come in with his holier than thou attitude and change La Granges history? Yep thats how a town and a city and a state and a country is shot in the back, Minority Rules ! So it is and was a blackeye eye on the community? So what? Every place has that!. Lol yeah right e o ! Then others make a great song and musical and movie about it and chances are I am betting La Grange sure did not get no piece of the cash pie for their blackeyed community. Others took their history and their future cash flow. Tourists would have been beating a trail to see it for decades by now. $$$ to nadfa ! Take a vote and see who thinks they agree with the chosen few who demolished it all. 1 percent probably and they are definately long gone and forgotten now just like this place. Closing it down I can agree but letting it just ruin for nothing is so not right..Too many knee jerk reactions to texas history. good or bad you can't change it because you aren't that much of the big shot you think you are.. Times do change but history goes on forever even if you turned your head away from it. . Now it is Tear it all down and lets build us a parking lot. for restaurants and bars so we can make us some big bucks. Open your eyes before you poke em out with those sharp edges of those dollar signs leaders. Yeah and the idea of refurnishing it for visitors..lol..too late no one wants to see fake reproductions. case in point the Ft worth stockyards. Changed it and ruined it. Give a politician and community leader an iota of a chance and they will mess it up every stinking time! good luck now la grange, what with a Brewery that no ones ever heard of.. Claim to Fame ..Pfffttt..
