OMG lose the Cowboy crap. When you come to the ocean and step on a boat Your in a different world. I wouldn't wear a diving suit to a rodeo. Lose the ego and join the fun!

Hi had a fiberglass boat before, great fun. I love the look of a wooden boat. I have seen three for sale. I know fiberglass boats a quicker to make, I was looking at Hunters and Moody boats. So one like them but in wood would be so cool.

Starter boats are not going to cruise the coastline Mexico to Alaska. Sleeps 5 would be packed in that first boat for anything other than a short weekend - not long coastal cruising. The last boat seems to be the only one that would meet the cruising they talked about at the start of the video - so good choice for them. I'm hoping for a larger yacht, but much less maintenance costs (no big diesel or sail rigging). Donate for a Dream.

We loved out 1985 Catalina 36 SPICA for about 10 years and well over 10,000 miles. SPICA is now in Long Beach with her new owners who frequent Santa Catalina Island.

Long distance boating on a power boat is not really reality unless it is a very large ship.

As a former 2014 Rinker owner, its so nice to see one in a video like this. Sorta sad since they recently went out of business. They are great boats, fast hulls and priced great (used to be).

The 1991 Tollycraft 57 motor yacht, for a couple with no boating experience, is too big for them. There will be a problem getting insurance for it. The 37' 2019 Rinker 370 EX would have been a much better choice for them: Handling, maintaining and insurance wise.

I have heard that many times.... and it is true. A boat is a lot of maintenance, and if you don't do it it turns to shit.

We owned five yachts over thirty years. We kept them in a Charter Fleet for typically 13 weeks of the year and we enjoyed them for the rest of the year. The charter revenue paid for all of the maintenance, expenses, moorage, along with the fuel we used on our trips. Every five years we got two-foot-itis so we kept upgrading. Our families have such wonderful memories of months long trips to last a lifetime. I’d still be at it, but losing my beloved bride when she was forty nine, completely changed my world forever…

Isthmus Cove would be the same except that every afternoon the prevailing winds squeeze through the hills on either side of the isthmus and blows 18-20 kts by afternoon. Pretty much forces boats moored at Isthmus Cove to moor head-to-wind facing the beach. You go into 4th of July or Cherry Cove and those moorings all face away from the beach. Isthmus Cove is not my favorite place to moor at Catalina for the foregoing reason. Often beggars can't be choosers and if you gotta moor at Isthmus Cove, hopefully you can grab a can close in on the NW side of the harbor where you're up against the cliffs and higher hills, and that'll help shield you from the afternoon winds. Downside to that of course is that because of the high hills on that side you lose sunlight pretty quickly in the afternoons; BUT....there's really no such thing as "the perfect" mooring spot at Isthmus Cove -- not unless the pm winds are neutral or a Santa Ana is blowing.

Good information Gary. One piece of advice that my Dad gave me. When you get the wand, grab the line and just dump the wand back in the water. I see it over and over again, people pick up the wand and then don't really know what to do with it and they fumble around with the wand when they should be putting the loop on the cleat and be walking the spreader line down the deck. It's cumbersome to try and find a place to lay it on deck and the lead weight at the bottom of the wand leaves marks on the deck.
