You get a B minus in this piece in my humble opinion

Some points that could have made this story more balanced are: 1. View points from immigrants that are waiting to have their papers done yet the backlog of illegal immigration delays the resolution of their status 2. The illegal entrance of people with criminal histories vs non-violent illegal people 3. The problem of human trafficking, especially kids (a more urgent issue than hard-working illegal people) 4. Invitation of conservative Californian to give their opinion (since the state did a small shift towards the center) 5. Less talking of fears and anxiety as the basis for Trump’s yet-to be done declarations and more talk of what he did during first presidency as the basis for second presidency 6. How have California done health-wise since the law imposing mandatory vaccination (have there been more outbreaks) 7. A clear distinction in presentation of facts vs. opinion and not using opinion for the basis of characterizing policies that are yet to be made

I'm a returning student who went to Moorpark College recently and graduated with a BS in Computer Science for Transfer. The highest math class I took in high school was Algebra 1. I started with Algebra 2 at MC. I struggled a bit with Calculus, mainly due to a few professors who are TERRIBLE at Moorpark College. Prof Weiss likely knows exactly which professors I am talking about. However, on my second try, I passed and I ended up getting an A in Calc 2. Now as a CS major at a 4-year university, I'm enrolled in a data mining class that I actually find easy.

Interesting. I had to grind up from pre-algebra placement to calc 2, couldn't image being thrown into calc without the prereqs. Most STEM students have to take adjacent math courses like physics and chemistry, so not doing your prereqs will make you crash out in those too.

I enrolled in community college after 10 withdrawn from high school. I studied for a placement test at the community college and received the highest placement possible and went into Calc 1 during the Spring 24' semester. I wasn't really solid with my foundations when it came to doing derivatives so I withdrew from the course. Took the majority of the summer to re-learn math from Professor Leonards youtube tutorials and have now received an A for Chapter 1 (Limits), Chapter 2 (Derivatives) & Chapter 3 (Applications of Derivatives). Our class is currently on Chapter 4 (Integration) and I'm doing well on the material. I expect to pass the class. My school also has 5 pre-requisite courses: pre-algebra, algebra, intermediate algebra, college algebra and pre-calculus before a student actually can take Calculus 1. If I had to take all 5 of those classes, I probably wouldn't commit the time to finishing school. I'm glad that resources platforms like youtube exist and that people create educational content so that others can use it to assist in their learning.

Time is crucial, and it's understandable that those who say that students who go straight into calculus will learn faster. But what many need to think about is that everyone has a different pace of learning. Math is such a nerve-wrecking subject, and some tend to overthink about the workload that they'll need to intake. I can speak from experience--I've never took precalc in high school, however after graduating, I took precalc at Grossmont College with support classes that helped me out a lot. I also took trigonometry that was very much needed for calculus. As of right now, I am taking calculus with support classes, and I feel more confident and less stressed when I come upon problems that were familiar in precalc/trig.

I'm taking calculus without preparatory courses and I'm on the verge of failing it. Spent more that 25 hours a week on the material and still no significant progress

It is TRULY failing students to let them pass without understanding the material. If we really care about helping students, we won't let them pass, we will invest in whatever it takes to educate people effectively!

That'll block people out from making enough money to afford housing in California... your plan will create homeless people. People need money first, they can go back and fill in the gaps later on in their life after they have enough money to live. That can be done anytime... but you can die of starvation or homelessness before that. Thus, getting money fast is the highest priority of any education -- especially for remedial students and minorities.

Never going to happen in this country. Plus easier said than done. Lots of money usually ends up in the wrong programs and in the wrong pockets. It’s a never ending problem and it could take a century to rectify.

The Black Parallel School Board works hand in hand with the shady racist SUSD. Facts. The true threats to the SUSD, BPSB help resolve problem parents of the SUSD by trying to silence them with gang stalking, mental isolation, gas lighting, and many other horrible tactics to quiet concerned parents. They need to be investigated. Look closer at the BPSB they are not for truly for black people. There are still schools that do not purchase books for the students which is a big scam through out Sacramento School District and the head of the BPSB is fully aware of this, they have first hand knowledge and is still working in the shadows with the crooked SUSD. This needs to be stopped. They will pay for their betrayal of the black communities students and parents. ZnotY

I like the part about students "self-selecting" to move themselves to a lower level course if they feel they need the review. A big part of the problem with remedial math (I taught it for ten years) is that you don't move forward in your degree unless you take that required course and get a passing grade in it. Making remedial classes optional and available as needed would be a big improvement. Let the students decide for themselves.
@laciesmithee93875 ай бұрын
I'm moving from 5th grade to TK this year. It is hard to learn a new grade-level while simultaneously taking 12 units each semester to get my 24 ECE units. I wish there was a better way. I know it is going to be an overwhelming year, but worth it in the end.

I used to live in lucerne for about 20 yrs or so since the 80's its grown alot and then again it hasnt grown at all .. there was a time when Nancy foot the real estate lady with one arm and the sheriff beto would rent peoples house out to a person they knew was on parole for meth related charges and after renting them the house the next day Sargent beto would cruz up and tell them they better be out by the morning when he came back or els he would find some meth there and back to prison they would go and he would tell them you dont get your deposit back and you dont get this months or thr rent they paid for two months in advance back if they didnt do what he said then he would make shure they whent back ti prison on a new meth case and that the state took there kids. The reson they did this was so they could tell the owners who lived some where else like LA or even oitta state that the renters where cooking meth and the house was considered condemned from the chemicals that where used to make meth and that it would have to be totaly tore down and rebuilt befor they coukd rent it out again so the owhers whould put the house up for sale after nancy foot sugested it would be the best thing and of course she would handle that for thf owner.but thr owners never cdme up there to look them selfs and take her word on it. Thats when beto and her put there money together and started buying up lucerne valley.
